Optometrist/Refractionist
Designation: Optometrist/Refractionist
Reports to: Head of Ophthalmology Department / Medical Director

The Optometrist/Refractionist will be responsible for conducting comprehensive eye examinations to assess visual acuity, refractive errors, and ocular health. This role involves prescribing corrective lenses (eyeglasses and contact lenses), detecting eye diseases, and referring patients to ophthalmologists for medical or surgical management when necessary.
Clinical Duties:
Perform accurate refractions to determine corrective lens prescriptions.
Conduct comprehensive eye health assessments to detect signs of eye diseases (e.g., glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy).
Fit and dispense eyeglasses and contact lenses, providing patient education on their use and care.
Manage common eye conditions such as conjunctivitis and dry eye.
Refer patients with complex eye diseases or surgical needs to an Ophthalmologist.
Provide low vision assessments and rehabilitation services if applicable.
Maintain detailed patient records of examinations and prescriptions.
Administrative Duties:
Ensure the proper calibration and maintenance of optometric equipment.
Manage inventory of trial lenses, frames, and contact lenses.
Collaborate with ophthalmic nurses and other clinic staff for efficient patient flow.
Educational Duties:
Educate patients on proper eye care, contact lens hygiene, and the importance of regular eye examinations.
Stay updated with advancements in optometry and lens technology.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Optometry or equivalent qualification.
Valid professional license by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) or equivalent regulatory body in Ethiopia.
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience as an Optometrist or Refractionist.
Strong knowledge of optics, visual assessment techniques, and common eye conditions.
Excellent communication and patient interaction skills
