The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiativeof the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministryof Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, GerhardHenrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae).AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate the HoliCare and EPIGENE research project and provide timely reports to the Principal Investigator (PI).

• Perform molecular testing for the project.

• Conduct research on biomarker-based diagnostics.

• Estimate and order laboratory consumables and kits for research activities.

• Prepare scientific reports, manuscripts, and publications.

• Mentor Master’s students and provide support to PhD students in related projects.

Job Requirements

• PhD degree obtained within the last year in Biotechnology or a closely related field.

• Two years and above work experience 

• Having a minimum of 6 publication points

• Background in infectious disease research.

• Strong publication record with at least three first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.

• Previous experience in diagnostic research is an advantage.

Required Skills  and  Experience:

• Practical skills in microbiological and molecular methods 

• Basic data analysis knowledge (experience with SPSS, R Studio, RedCap).

• Commitment to research ethics, safety procedures, and scientific integrity.

• Strong scientific communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Duty station: Addis Ababa

Employment Type:  one year contract period with full time employment basis with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability
