Job Description

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) translating to Doctors without Borders, was founded in 1971 in Paris by a group of journalists and doctors. Today, we are a worldwide movement of nearly 68,000 people.
Médecins Sans Frontières is an international, independent medical humanitarian organization that provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare. Our teams are made up of tens of thousands of health professionals, logistics, and administrative staff - bound together by our charter. Médecins Sans Frontières started its work in Ethiopia in 1984 during the famine, after that the different sections were providing different medical assistance in the country. Currently, MSF-Holland operates in four projects in Ethiopia: Amhara Neglected Diseases and Emergency, Tigray Primary Health Care, Kule South Sudan Refugees, and Somali Region Mobile Health. 

Main Purpose/Job Summary: - Performs X-ray examination according MSF protocols, security measures and standards of hygiene and privacy in order to contribute to the improvement of the health condition of the patients.

General Accountabilities: 

• Providing radiology services on medical doctor’s request, to both in-patients and out-patients. Reporting immediately to the medical referent any problem regarding patient’s health status. 

• Reporting to the medical team on the results of the x-ray performed using X-Ray Form and Patient Files. Keeping accurate record of all images produced and providing weekly summaries of all performed radiological examinations. Compiling weekly data on activity and contributing to general statistics of the project.

 • Communicating with patients and staff in a clear and respectful manner and upholding patient confidentiality at all times. 

• Perform basic troubleshooting, cleaning and user maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning, loss/robbery/damage of x-ray room material and/or devices. Undertaking regular Quality Assurance checks on equipment and radiographs. 

• Upholding and ensuring staff/patients compliance to all radiation safety regulations. Identifying vulnerable persons to radiation such as pregnant women, and protecting them accordingly. Ensuring radiation safety by using protective aprons and specific devices and clearly marking and respecting all radiation areas

 • Knowing and applying hygiene protocols. Carrying out cleaning and tidying up of the x-ray devices and ensuring proper waste disposal according to MSF safety standards

• Doing regular inventories of stocks and ensuring all materials are stored according to each specific condition. 

• Participating in team meetings and possible trainings. Collaborating in any emergency, if required by the supervisor or coordination. 

Specific Accountabilities: 

• Responsible for radiology service provision.

 • To produce images of adequate diagnostic quality according to ALARA principals

 • To keep accurate record of all images produced, and to be able to provide weekly summaries of all radiography work completed. • Communicate with patients and staff in a clear and respectful manner and uphold patient confidentiality at all times. 

• Responsible for maintaining all equipment according to maintenance schedule including adherence to a regular cleaning schedule of equipment, and to alert supervisor of malfunctions/problems.

 • To uphold all radiation safety regulations, to ensure that staff/patients are following these regulations, and to inform staff about radiography safety. • To ensure that all areas of radiation are clearly marked and respected. 

• Undertake regular quality assurance checks on equipment and radiographs

Job Requirements

Education
            • Essential Criteria: Radiographer / X-ray technician degree
Experience
              • Essential Criteria: : 2years as a X-Ray technician/Radiographer, in a hospital setting in digital imaging system
              • Desirable criteria: • Experience with MSF or other NGOs in resource-limited settings or developing countries.
Languages
             • Essential Criteria: Mission Language (English)
             • Desirable criteria: Local Language
Knowledge
          • Essential Criteria: strong technical knowledge in Radiography
          • Desirable criteria: Computer literacy (word, excel and internet) and ideally PACS
         Good inter-personal and communication skills
