Job Advert: Head of Quality Assurance

We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Head of Quality Assurance to lead our commitment to excellence in patient care. The Head of Quality Assurance will be responsible for strategically planning, directing, and overseeing all aspects of our hospital's quality management system. This pivotal role ensures the highest standards of clinical governance, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across all hospital operations.
Strategic Quality Leadership:
Develop, implement, and champion the hospital's comprehensive quality management strategy, aligning it with national and international healthcare standards (e.g., Ethiopian Healthcare Standards, ISO, JCI, or other relevant accreditation bodies).
Provide expert leadership and guidance to all departments on quality assurance best practices and patient safety initiatives.
Foster a robust culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
Quality System Oversight & Management:
Design, implement, and rigorously maintain the hospital's Quality Management System (QMS), including policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines, ensuring they are current and effective.
Oversee the continuous monitoring and evaluation of clinical and administrative processes through regular, in-depth quality audits and assessments.
Establish and manage a robust data collection and analysis framework for patient outcomes, incident reporting, patient feedback, and key performance indicators. Present comprehensive, actionable quality performance reports to senior management and the Board.
Compliance, Risk Management & Accreditation:
Ensure the hospital's unwavering adherence to all national healthcare regulations, licensing requirements, and patient safety guidelines.
Lead comprehensive risk assessment activities, proactively identifying potential risks to patient safety and quality of care, and developing robust mitigation strategies.
Direct the investigation of adverse events, patient complaints, and near misses, ensuring thorough root cause analysis, and the effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
Spearhead and manage all aspects of hospital accreditation processes, ensuring successful outcomes and ongoing compliance with accreditation standards.
Training, Education & Development:
Design, develop, and deliver impactful quality assurance and patient safety training programs for all levels of hospital staff.
Mentor and empower department heads and staff in the effective implementation of quality improvement initiatives and methodologies.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
Lead and direct high-impact quality improvement projects (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, PDCA cycles) focused on enhancing efficiency, optimizing processes, reducing errors, and significantly improving patient satisfaction and outcomes.
Drive benchmarking activities against leading industry best practices, identifying and championing opportunities for innovation and service excellence.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Healthcare Management, Nursing, Medicine, or a closely related clinical field is essential. A Master's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., MPH, MHA, MBA) is highly preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 7 years of progressive and demonstrable experience in quality assurance, quality improvement, or a senior leadership role within a reputable healthcare setting (hospital or large clinic), with at least 3 years in a managerial or head-of-department capacity.
Expertise:
In-depth, expert-level understanding of healthcare quality standards, patient safety principles, clinical governance, and national/international regulatory requirements.
Proven experience leading successful accreditation processes (e.g., JCI, COHSASA, ISO 9001, or similar) is highly desirable.
Demonstrated ability to strategically collect, analyze, interpret, and present complex healthcare data, translating insights into actionable improvement plans.
Exceptional leadership, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build and lead high-performing multidisciplinary teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and advanced experience with quality management software, statistical analysis tools, or hospital information systems.
