Job Advert: Dialysis Technician
Designation: Dialysis Technician
Reports to: Head of Nephrology Department / Nurse Manager (Dialysis Unit)

The Dialysis Technician will be responsible for operating and maintaining hemodialysis equipment, preparing patients for dialysis treatments, and monitoring them throughout the procedure. This role requires technical proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to supporting patients with kidney disease.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
Set up, prime, and troubleshoot hemodialysis machines and related equipment.
Perform routine checks, maintenance, and cleaning of dialysis equipment before, during, and after treatments.
Prepare dialysate solutions according to prescribed formulas.
Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or safety issues promptly.
Patient Preparation & Monitoring:
Prepare the patient for dialysis, including obtaining vital signs, weight, and assessing vascular access sites (e.g., AV fistula, graft, catheter).
Initiate and terminate dialysis treatments safely and efficiently, cannulating vascular access sites as required.
Continuously monitor patients during dialysis for vital signs, signs of complications (e.g., hypotension, cramps, reactions), and respond appropriately.
Administer saline or other solutions as directed by the nursing staff or physician.
Documentation & Communication:
Accurately document all treatment parameters, patient observations, and interventions in the patient's medical record.
Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures and providing reassurance.
Report any changes in patient condition or concerns to the supervising nurse or physician immediately.
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including nephrologists, nurses, and dietitians, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Infection Control & Safety:
Adhere strictly to infection control protocols, including hand hygiene and equipment disinfection, to prevent cross-contamination.
Ensure a clean and safe environment within the dialysis unit.
Handle and dispose of biohazardous waste according to hospital policy.
Minimum Requirements
BSC, Nursing from an accredited institution.
Valid professional license/certification to practice as a Dialysis Technician in Ethiopia -).
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience as a Dialysis Technician in a hospital or specialized dialysis center.
Proven proficiency in operating and maintaining hemodialysis equipment and understanding of dialysis principles.
Strong knowledge of vascular access care and potential complications.
Excellent observation skills, attention to detail, and ability to respond effectively to patient needs and emergencies.
Compassionate and patient-focused approach with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a demanding environment.
