The Phlebotomist will be responsible for accurately and safely collecting blood samples from patients of all ages, ensuring proper labeling and handling for diagnostic testing. This role requires excellent venipuncture skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patient care.
Blood Sample Collection:
Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures with precision and care on patients of all ages, including infants, children, adults, and geriatric patients.
Identify patients correctly using established hospital protocols (e.g., matching identification with requisition forms).
Select appropriate collection tubes and equipment based on ordered tests.
Adhere to strict infection control and safety procedures during all blood collection processes.
Provide clear instructions and reassurance to patients to ensure a comfortable experience.
Sample Handling & Processing:
Accurately label all collected specimens with patient information, date, and time.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of samples to the laboratory according to established guidelines.
Perform basic sample processing, such as centrifugation, if required, before transport.
Maintain detailed records of collected specimens and patient information.
Patient Interaction:
Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, explaining procedures and answering questions.
Address patient concerns or anxieties related to blood drawing with empathy and patience.
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Equipment & Supplies Management:
Monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of phlebotomy supplies, ensuring proper stock rotation.
Keep the phlebotomy area clean, organized, and well-stocked.
Report any equipment malfunctions or supply shortages promptly.
Minimum Requirements
Diploma or Certificate in Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related healthcare field from an accredited institution.
Valid professional license/certification to practice as a Phlebotomist in Ethiopia -).
Minimum of 1 years of demonstrable experience as a Phlebotomist in a clinical setting, preferably in a hospital or large clinic.
Proven proficiency in various venipuncture techniques and patient identification protocols.
Strong understanding of infection control practices and safety regulations.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
Attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
