Job Advert: Head of Security

Designation: Head of Security

Reports to: Hospital Administrator

The Head of Security will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive security strategies, policies, and operations to ensure the safety and security of patients, staff, visitors, and hospital assets. This leadership role involves overseeing the security team, managing security systems, and responding to all security-related incidents.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Security Strategy & Policy Development:

    • Develop, implement, and regularly review hospital security policies, procedures, and protocols in line with industry best practices and local regulations.

    • Conduct comprehensive security risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and threats to the hospital environment.

    • Formulate strategic plans to enhance the overall security posture of the facility.

  • Security Operations Management:

    • Oversee the daily operations of the hospital's security department, including staffing, scheduling, training, and performance management of security personnel.

    • Manage and maintain security systems, including CCTV, access control systems, alarm systems, and communication equipment.

    • Ensure effective patrolling, monitoring, and surveillance of hospital premises.

  • Incident Management & Response:

    • Lead the response to all security incidents, emergencies, and crises (e.g., theft, assault, unauthorized access, fire, active threats).

    • Conduct thorough investigations of security breaches, incidents, and complaints, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.

    • Liaise with local law enforcement and emergency services as required.

  • Training & Awareness:

    • Develop and deliver security awareness training programs for all hospital staff, promoting a culture of vigilance and safety.

    • Train security personnel on advanced security techniques, emergency response, conflict resolution, and customer service.

  • Compliance & Reporting:

    • Ensure compliance with all relevant security regulations, licensing requirements, and hospital policies.

    • Prepare regular reports on security performance, incident statistics, and key metrics for senior management.

    • Manage the security budget effectively.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Public Safety, or a related field. Relevant professional security certifications (e.g., CPP, PSP) are highly desirable.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive demonstrable experience in security management, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role, preferably in a large institutional setting like a hospital, airport, or large commercial complex.

  • Proven knowledge of modern security technologies, systems, and best practices.

  • Strong understanding of emergency preparedness, crisis management, and incident response protocols.

  • Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills under pressure.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in Amharic and English.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
