Job Description

The Finance Manager is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the hospital. This includes strategic financial planning, budgeting, reporting, managing the revenue cycle, ensuring compliance with all local regulations, and implementing effective internal controls. The role supports the hospital's mission of providing high-quality healthcare by maintaining fiscal responsibility and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Planning & Budgeting:

    • Develop and manage the hospital's annual budget, financial forecasts, and long-term financial plans.

    • Monitor expenditures and budget utilization across all departments, providing detailed analysis and recommendations for cost-saving measures.

    • Provide financial analysis and insights to the management team to support strategic decision-making.

  • Accounting & Reporting:

    • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger.

    • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of all financial statements (e.g., balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements) in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and IFRS.

    • Prepare and present financial reports to the hospital's leadership.

  • Compliance & Audit:

    • Ensure strict compliance with all Ethiopian tax laws, financial regulations, and labor laws.

    • Coordinate and manage both internal and external audits, implementing recommendations to strengthen financial controls.

    • Develop and enforce robust internal control systems to safeguard the hospital’s financial resources and prevent fraud.

  • Revenue Cycle Management:

    • Oversee the patient billing and collection processes to optimize revenue streams.

    • Work with department heads to establish pricing strategies for services that are competitive yet profitable.

    • Monitor cash flow to ensure adequate funds are available to meet financial obligations.

  • Team Leadership:

    • Lead and mentor the finance department staff, fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth.

    • Collaborate with other department heads to ensure financial policies and procedures are understood and followed.

Job Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. 

  • Experience: A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a senior finance or accounting role & 3 years in Finance manager position. Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting is highly desirable due to the unique nature of healthcare finance.

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • In-depth knowledge of Ethiopian financial regulations and tax laws.

    • Proven leadership, team management, and strategic planning skills.

    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

    • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
