Job Description

The Marketing and Communications Strategy Consultant will work closely with the Emory University Ethiopia leadership team to develop a marketing and communication strategy to raise awareness of Emory University Ethiopia’s work across the country and within the broader international development and global health sector. The Consultant should possess skills in digital communications, branding, editorial strategy, and writing. The strategy will articulate measurable goals for brand growth and brand impact. 

Specific Functions and Responsibilities: 

  • Work with Emory University Ethiopia leadership team to develop a marketing and communications strategy that includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Strategic plan optimized for implementation by team members dedicated to technical and administrative roles rather than communications roles

  • Website review

  • Social media strategy review

  • Methodology for identifying success stories for the press (international and local) and for academic publications

  • Development of guidelines for local press outreach

  • Identification of public engagement opportunities in Addis Ababa and more broadly across Ethiopia

  • Recommendation of marketing materials (including but not limited to brochures, PowerPoint slide decks, posters and banners, promotional materials such as t-shirts)

  • Development of branding guidelines that focuses on localization of Emory University style guide

  • Provision of training and development of training documentation for implementing this strategy 

Working Conditions and Duty Stations

Level of Travel:   0-20% travel to the region 

Terms of employment:  Three month 

Number required:   1 (one)  

Salary:   Based on organization salary scale    

Job Requirements

Educational Qualifications & Work Experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, marketing, international development, business, or related field.

  • 5 years of experience in marketing and communications, preferably in international development and/or global health

  • Experience developing content for marketing materials, social media, and websites

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement

  • Outstanding communication and writing skills

  • Oral and written fluency in English

Preferred knowledge, skills, experience

  • Proficiency in Amharic 

  • Experience working in visual software such as Adobe and Canva

  • Experience developing and implementing communications and brand strategies for international development or global health clients 

  • Fundraising communications skills

  • Experience working in maternal and newborn health

  • Experience working in international development
