The Regional Sales Manager (Addis Ababa) is a strategic and hands-on leadership role responsible for driving sales growth, market share, and distribution effectiveness for all company products (soap, detergent, noodles, and edible oil) within the entire Addis Ababa city administration. This role will involve developing and executing sales strategies tailored to the urban market, managing key accounts, optimizing distribution channels, and leading a team of sales professionals to achieve ambitious targets in a highly competitive FMCG environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive sales strategies and tactical plans specifically for the Addis Ababa market, aligned with overall company objectives. 

  • Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and competitor activities within Addis Ababa to identify growth opportunities and potential threats.

  • Set realistic yet ambitious sales targets for primary and secondary sales, distribution coverage, and market share across all product categories.

  • Forecast sales volumes and values accurately for the Addis Ababa region.

  • Optimize and manage the entire distribution network within Addis Ababa, including direct distribution, wholesalers, key distributors, and modern trade channels (supermarkets, hypermarkets).

  • Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key distributors and major retail chains in Addis Ababa. 

  • Ensure efficient supply chain flow, optimal stock levels, and timely delivery of products to all sales points.

  • Identify and onboard new distribution partners or direct sales channels to expand market reach.

  • Monitor distributor performance against agreed KPIs, conducting regular reviews and implementing corrective actions.

  • Directly manage and negotiate with key accounts within Addis Ababa, including major supermarket chains, institutional buyers, and large wholesalers.

  • Develop and execute joint business plans with key accounts to drive mutual growth.

  • Lead, motivate, coach, and develop a team of Area Sales Managers and Sales Representatives operating within Addis Ababa.

  • Set clear individual and team performance objectives and conduct regular performance appraisals.

  • Provide ongoing training, coaching, and mentorship to enhance the sales team's capabilities in product knowledge, selling skills, and market understanding.

  • Ensure adherence to company sales policies, procedures, and ethical standards.

  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration within the sales team and with other departments.

  • Continuously monitor and analyze sales data, market share, pricing, and promotional effectiveness within Addis Ababa.

  • Provide timely and accurate reports on market conditions, competitor activities, and sales performance to senior management.

  • Identify emerging market trends, consumer preferences, and competitive moves specific to the Addis Ababa urban consumer.

  • Collaborate closely with the Marketing team to ensure effective implementation of trade marketing programs, promotions, and merchandising standards in all retail outlets within Addis Ababa.

  • Ensure optimal product visibility, shelf placement, and proper display of Point-of-Sale (POS) materials.

  • Manage the sales budget for the Addis Ababa region effectively, ensuring optimal resource allocation and return on investment.

Job Requirements

Qualification

Education

  • BA/MA in Marketing Management, Business Administration, Management, Business Management or related fields

Experience:

  • 8/6 years progressive experience as National Sales Manager, Regional Sales Manager, Deputy Sales Manager.

Skills:

  • Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building capabilities. 

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. 

  • Deep understanding of the Addis Ababa consumer market, retail landscape, and distribution channels. 

  • Proficiency in sales forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis. 

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint) and CRM software. 

  • Fluency in Amharic and strong command of English (both written and spoken). 

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
