Job Description
The Automotive Service Manager oversees the daily operations of the service department for both traditional internal combustion engines (ICE) vehicles and electric vehicles (EVs) including both passenger vehicles (PVs) and commercial vehicles (CVs). This role ensures efficient workflow, high-quality service, excellent customer satisfaction, and compliance with OEM standards, safety and environmental standards. The position involves supervising the workshop team, managing resources, developing EV service capabilities, and improving the profitability of the service division.
1. Service Department Management
• Plan, organize, and manage day-to-day service operations for both ICE and EV vehicles.
• Develop service schedules, assign jobs, and monitor progress to ensure timely completion.
• Maintain quality control standards and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
• Ensure proper diagnostic and repair procedures for both traditional and electric drivetrains.
2. EV-Specific Operations
• Oversee EV diagnostics, battery health checks, and high-voltage system repairs.
• Implement manufacturer-approved EV service procedures and safety protocols.
• Ensure technicians are trained and certified for EV maintenance and repairs.
• Maintain specialized EV tools, charging infrastructure, and software updates.
3. Customer Service & Relationship Management
• Oversee customer relationship management, assess service needs, and provide accurate cost estimates.
• Resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally.
• Monitor customer satisfaction through surveys, feedback, and repeat business.
4. Staff Leadership & Development
• Supervise, train, and motivate service technicians, advisors, and support staff.
• Conduct performance evaluations and implement skill development plans.
• Foster a safe, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.
5. Financial & Inventory Management
• Prepare and manage service department budgets.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including labor efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
• Oversee spare parts, consumables and EV components inventory, ensuring availability, cost control and profitability.
• Forecast parts orders to minimize stock levels while ensuring high fill-rate for parts.
• Manage the parts ordering process through different channels including OEM orders, overseas shipments and local market purchases.
6. Compliance & Safety
• Enforce adherence to workplace safety regulations, particularly high-voltage safety for EVs.
• Ensure environmental compliance for waste disposal, battery recycling, and chemical handling.
• Keep up to date with evolving automotive and EV service regulations.
Qualification
MSC or BSC degree in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (preferred).
Certification in automotive service management and EV maintenance is an asset.
Experience
8+ years in automotive service management, with experience in EV servicing preferred.
Previous experience working in dealerships with world-class brands is an advantage.
