MELA FOR HER is looking for a vibrant, energetic and experienced professional to take up the Social Marketing and Sales Manager position to strengthen our sales and marketing efforts across the country. You will join a dedicated team of professionals united by a shared commitment to our cause and values. Your primary responsibility will be to coordinate sales, social, and marketing activities to ensure that the sales target is met and all women and girls in Ethiopia have access to MELA’s products and services.  

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Sales and Social Marketing Manager is responsible for driving sales, expanding market reach, and increasing awareness of reusable sanitary products across Ethiopia. This role combines commercial strategy with community-based education, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement to promote sustainable menstrual health and hygiene, particularly among underserved populations.

Reporting directly to the CEO of MELA, the position holder will lead planning, execution, and evaluation of sales and marketing initiatives to ensure both business growth and social impact.

Planning

  • Develop annual and quarterly sales and marketing plans with measurable KPIs aligned to organizational objectives.

  • Monitor progress against targets, ensuring strategies remain adaptive and responsive.

  • Prepare timely reports for senior leadership, capturing outcomes, lessons learned, and recommendations.

  • Ensure all activities contribute to both business sustainability and social impact goals.

Sales & Distribution Management

  • Identify new market opportunities and customer segments (local and international).

  • Develop and implement sales strategies to meet monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.

  • Identify, onboard, and manage distribution channels, including wholesalers, pharmacies, retail shops, NGOs, schools, cooperatives, and women-led groups.

  • Monitor sales performance and stock levels, coordinating with marketing and logistics teams to ensure timely product delivery.

  • Provide technical support and training to distributors, partners, and retailers.

  • Collect and analyze sales data and trends to inform decision-making and forecasting.

Market Research & Customer Insights 

  • Conduct product and market assessments, including stakeholder mapping, to identify opportunities and challenges.

  • Gather customer feedback to inform product design, packaging, and user experience.

  • Stay updated on menstrual health trends, competitors, and relevant policies in target markets.

Social Marketing and Awareness Campaigns

  • Design and implement innovative marketing campaigns to raise brand awareness.

  • Manage promotional strategies across multiple channels (social media, events, and partnerships, etc.).

  • Build and nurture collaborations with influencers, organizations, and media outlets to expand reach.

  • Organize promotional events, pop-ups, and community engagement initiatives.

  • Lead educational and awareness campaigns on menstrual health and proper product usage.

  • Partner with schools, health centers, women’s associations, NGOs, and local governments for outreach programs.

  • Coordinate dialogue sessions, workshops, and school-based programs tailored to target groups.

  • Leverage storytelling, testimonials, and community champions to inspire behavior change.

  • Track and evaluate the impact of campaigns, adjusting strategies to maximize engagement and rate of return. 

Team Leadership and Management

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate sales and marketing teams in the Head Office and regional states.

  • Develop work plans, delegate responsibilities, and provide feedback and coaching.

  • Mentor, support and supervise women’s sales agents or peer educators when relevant. 

  • Foster a culture of accountability, creativity, and collaboration. Identify training and capacity-building needs to enhance team performance.

Partnership Development

  • Identify and engage potential strategic partners such as local NGOs, government bodies, and the private sector for collaboration.

  • Liaise with health and education officials to integrate MELA’s products and services into school or public health programs.

Visibility & Communications

  • Ensure consistent brand messaging and visual identity across all platforms and materials.

  • Promote both digital and offline communications materials and actions, with region-specific content (photos, videos, success stories).

  • Support social media, media relations, and website updates. 

  • Ensure MELA representation and visibility in trade fairs, exhibitions, community bazaars, and development sector platforms.

Reporting & Coordination

  • Compile and submit regular reports (weekly/monthly) on sales performance, outreach activities, and challenges.

  • Collaborate with the MELA team to align on strategy, campaign rollout, and training needs.

Other Duties

  • Undertake other duties within the general scope of the post, as assigned by the CEO or Deputy CEO. 

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Economics, Business Management, or related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in sales, marketing, or community engagement (experience in health/hygiene products preferred).

  • Strong knowledge of social marketing and passion for cause-driven campaigns.

  • Understanding of the health sector and gender issues is an asset.

  • Proven ability to build and manage diverse stakeholder relationships.

  • Solid experience in team management.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Fluency in Amharic and local languages; excellent working knowledge of English.

  • Experience working in rural and peri-urban communities is highly desirable.

  • Strong commitment to menstrual health, gender equality, and women’s empowerment, aligned with MELA’s mission and values.

  • Willingness to travel to regions.
