People in Need is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded on the ideals of humanity, freedom, equality and solidarity.
People in Need was established in 1992 by a group of Czech war correspondents, journalists and activists and has grown to become one of the largest non-profit organization in Central and Eastern Europe.
Throughout our 30 years of existence, People in Need continues to engage in humanitarian aid, development cooperation, education and social inclusion.
We have been operating in Ethiopia since 2003, working in five regions; Oromia, Central Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, Amhara and Tigray in different multi sectoral projects in the areas of development and emergency response.
People in Need, from the very start of its operations in Ethiopia, has focused on projects in five main areas of interest: Education, Agriculture, Climate and Environment, Water and Social protection.

PIN currently invites qualified applicants for the position of: Access & Safety Officer for Access and Safety Department.
Length of Contract: definite until December 31,2025
Place of Work: - Based in Nekemte Oromia, Region with frequent field travel to PIN’s project sites in different regions as required.
Salary: 340 USD
Job Overview
The Access & Safety Officer (ASO) supports the implementation of People in Need’s (PIN) safety and access strategy at field level. The ASO based in Bahir Dar (Amhara region) will assist the Safety & Access Unit Coordinator (ASUC) to ensure field operations are conducted safely, with secure and sustainable access to program locations. This includes regular threat assessments, liaison with key stakeholders, and contributing to the preparation and dissemination of safety guidance, incident reporting, and trainings.
1. Context Monitoring & Analysis
Monitor local developments (security, political, social, environmental) that may affect staff safety or access.
Maintain regular communication with local stakeholders (community leaders, authorities, NGO networks).
Contribute to daily/weekly access updates and situation reports.
Flag security concerns to the Access Manager promptly.
2. Field Security Support
Conduct field access assessments under ASUC guidance.
Support risk assessments for new areas, roads, and program expansion.
Monitor staff movements; ensure communication tools and tracking systems are in place and functional.
Support incident reporting and follow-up documentation.
3. Liaison & Coordination
Assist in maintaining access networks with local actors, including community gatekeepers and local authorities.
Coordinate with partners and humanitarian access/security forums as assigned.
Assist in drafting NOC letters and movement clearance documents.
4. Training & Awareness
Deliver safety inductions for new national staff in field offices.
Support the ASUC in organizing safety and first aid training sessions.
Conduct regular awareness sessions on context-specific risks and coping strategies.
5. Logistics & Emergency Preparedness
Monitor availability and condition of first aid kits, hibernation kits, fire extinguishers, and emergency communications tools (e.g. radios, sat phones).
Support the development and dissemination of contingency plans and constant companion cards.
Maintain up-to-date contact lists and emergency phone trees.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Assist in updating field-level SOPs, access strategies, and security risk assessments.
Track field incident reports and maintain the local incident database.
Support weekly movement planning and post-trip security debriefs when necessary.
Accountability and Safeguarding
Ensure that all activities are implemented in line with PIN Code of Conduct, Safeguarding Policy, and Prevention of SEAH commitments.
Report any safeguarding concerns or incidents as per PIN protocols.
Contribute to a protective and inclusive work environment for all staff and beneficiaries.
Other Responsibilities
Perform any other access or security-related tasks assigned by the Access & Safety Unit coordinator (ASUC).
Ensure strict confidentiality in all sensitive matters.
Be available outside regular hours as emergency contact when required.
General obligations and responsibilities
The Employee is obligated not to purvey any information concerning any of PIN activities to outsiders (including former PIN employees, who may no more be informed about current process in PIN).
PIN is a relief and development organization whose aim is to help and assist needy people. The Employee’s position within the institution requires contacts with outside; he or she therefore conveys a certain image of the PIN. PIN expects its Employees to behave in appropriate manners at all times and in all places. All members of staff should ensure their attitudes correspond to PIN principles, both during and after working hours.
The Employee takes over the responsibility for all entrusted material or cash. The Employee is obligated to cover all damages or losses caused by his carelessness. The Agreement of Liability of Assets has been signed separately.

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, security studies, or related field.
At least 2 years of relevant experience in security, humanitarian access, or liaison roles.
Good understanding of the local context and key stakeholders.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of Oromifa language is mandatory
Capacity to work in a fast-paced, high-risk environment.
Proficiency in English; ability to write reports and briefings)
