The Horticulturalist will be responsible for the planning, development, and maintenance of all resort gardens, green areas, landscapes, and plant collections. The role ensures that the resort environment is aesthetically pleasing, environmentally sustainable, and aligned with Kuriftu’s brand standards of luxury hospitality. The Horticulturalist will lead landscape design, plant care, pest management, and sustainability projects to enhance the overall guest experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Landscape & Garden Management

• Design, develop, and maintain resort gardens, lawns, flower beds, and ornamental plants.

• Ensure high standards of landscaping that reflect the luxury resort image.

• Select suitable plants, shrubs, and trees based on local climate and soil conditions.

• Monitor plant health and ensure proper watering, fertilizing, pruning, and weeding.

• Maintain indoor plants for guest rooms, restaurants, spa, and public areas.

Sustainability & Environmental Practices Pest & Disease Management

• Implement water-efficient irrigation systems and soil conservation methods.

• Promote eco-friendly practices such as composting, recycling green waste, and organic fertilizers.

• Support biodiversity projects and maintain resort’s ecological balance.

• Identify and control pests and plant diseases using safe and environmentally responsible methods

• Keep records of plant health and implement preventive measures.

Planning & Design

• Work closely with management on seasonal planting schedules and landscaping projects.

• Recommend new horticultural concepts to enhance guest experience (e.g., herbal gardens, thematic landscaping, wedding venues).

• Prepare cost estimates for new landscaping projects and manage budgets effectively.

Collaboration & Guest Experience

• Work with Events/Wedding teams to prepare gardens for special functions.

• Collaborate with F&B for fresh herbs, fruits, and edible flowers.

• Provide guided tours or horticultural insights to guests when required.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education-  Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Landscaping, Agricultural Science, or related field.

• Experience- Minimum 5 years’ experience in horticulture, landscaping, or resort garden management (hospitality sector preferred).

Skills:

• Strong knowledge of tropical and local plants.

• Landscape design and garden planning.

• Pest and disease management.

• Leadership and team supervision.

• Budgeting and project management.

Other Requirements:

• Passion for nature and sustainability.

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Strong communication skills (English & Amharic preferred).

• Creative and detail-oriented with an eye for aesthetic
