Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp, a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, with mining operations in multiple countries including Ethiopia, Mali, and Côte d'Ivoire. KGM holds a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three Exploration Licenses for its Ethiopian project. These licenses are located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and about 90 km northwest of Assosa, in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. KGM is currently engaged in both mine development and exploration activities at the site. 

 KGM is searching for Mapping Geologists with a minimum of 4 years of experience, reporting to the Senior Resource Geologist, to collect and interpret data through on-site geological mapping and sampling to guide short-term mining operations, ensuring efficient extraction of ore and minimizing dilution by providing geological data to the production and planning teams.

Duties & Responsibilities:

 Duties will include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Geological Mapping & Sampling:

    Conduct detailed geological mapping of active mining faces to identify rock types, mineralization, and structural features. 

  • Data Collection & Validation:

    Collect and validate geological data from mapping, drill holes, and core samples to support grade control and resource management.

  • Ore & Waste Delineation:

    Provide real-time guidance to mining operations on ore-waste discrimination through mapping and mark-outs. 

  • Geological Modelling:

    Use specialized software to update and refine 3D geological models based on gathered data. 

  • Collaboration:

    Work closely with mining engineers, surveyors, and production teams to integrate geological insights into mine planning and optimize extraction. 

  • Reporting:

    Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports summarizing findings, production reconciliation, and geological interpretations for stakeholders. 

  • Safety & Compliance:

    Monitor ground conditions, identify potential geological hazards, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations. 

  • Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI): Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Location/duty station: Benshangul Gumuz, Asosa Zone, Kurmuk Woreda Project Site - Fly In/Fly out roster (6/2weeks)

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications:

  • A tertiary qualification/diploma in Geology from a recognized institution  

Experience:

  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in open pit production geology in a mine setting with experience in sampling practices, grade control systems and reconciliation.

  • Proven experience in using geological software and geostatistical data analysis tools such as Database, GIS, and Leapfrog or similar software, in particular 3D modelling.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of geological principles and concepts.

  • A good understanding of quality control and quality assurance protocols.

  • Ability to interpret geological data and develop accurate resource models.

  • Strong 3D interpretation and modelling skills.

  • Demonstrated ability in the production of technical documentations and reports.

  • Experience in exploratory data analysis and advanced Excel skills

  • Strong analytical skills with ability to verify and validate geological data.

  • Ability to interpret geological information in 3D.

  • Physical Fitness:

    The ability to perform physically demanding tasks in an outdoor mining environment.

  • Communication Skills:

    Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with other team members - English proficiency will be an advantage.

  • Teamwork:

    The ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve grade control objectives.

  • Problem-Solving:

    The ability to identify and resolve issues related to grade control activities.

  • Coaching and Mentoring:

    Proven coaching and mentoring abilities in fostering employee development by enhancing their skills, knowledge, and overall performance.  Skilled in identifying and targeting specific areas for growth, setting clear goals, and creating personalized development plans.
