Job Description

Mothers and Children Multisectoral Development Organization (MCMDO) is a non-governmental, not for profit humanitarian organization established in 1997 with registration number 0022. MCMDO is one of the pioneer and leading National NGOs serving the most in need communities with multisectoral response across all regions and city Administrations in Ethiopia.  To properly address the program MCMDO is looking for a competent and qualified Executive Director.

Position: Executive Director

Duty Station: MCMDO Head Office, Addis Ababa

Employment type: Contract

Salary: As per the organization scale

Closing Date: September 19, 2025

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Executive Director who reports to the Board is responsible to carry out the following key roles and responsibilities;

  • Manage the day to day activities of the organization;

  • Establish/strengthen and led the Management of the organization;

  • Engaged in advocacy and high level events representing the organization;

  • Led the key departments such as Finance, Program, HR/Admin, Business development and communications to attain the organizational objectives;

  • Keep strong connection and partnership with key donors, partners and government counterparts at all levels;

  • Adhere organizational activities to the  key policy documents of the organization;

  • Ensure the successful path and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan;

  • Develop and led key operational plans, emergency response plans and context;

  • Ensure strong membership engagement and collaboration with existing forums and consortiums; 

  • Engage in the ongoing key agendas such as localization of Aid, humanitarian reset, climate change & resilience and local capacity development initiatives; 

  • Augment and led income generating and social enterprise development as per the law of the country which reinforces organizational sustainability;

  • In collaboration with the Board Chair person, he/she will contribute agenda items and flag key issues that need the attention of the board, capture board meeting minutes;

  • Guide the key departments to prepare periodic reports, plans and updates to the Board members;

  • Discharge additional directions and responsibilities provided by the board and keep the board members updated; 

Job Requirements

Educational qualifications and other key competencies 

  • Masters degree in Management, Public Administration, marketing, Engineering, Health, education, leadership and other related fields of study; 

  • Public service experience more than 10 years in leadership position is mandatory;

  • NGO experience in senior management position more than 6 years is mandatory;

  • Served in the capacity of a National NGO Director for at least three years’ time;

  • Knowledge of the organization’s values, organizational nature is a plus;

  • Proven problem solving, leadership in complex situations and success is desirable;
