Job Description

Job Summary: The Senior Government Affairs Officer is responsible for detailed engagement and liaison with regional government offices to establish and maintain strong partnerships, ensure smooth collaboration, and represent the bank’s interests in regional government-related matters. The officer ensures alignment between the bank’s operations and government policies while facilitating timely communication and coordination with relevant government bodies.

Key Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains strong professional relationships with regional government offices and officials to support the bank’s strategic objectives.

  • Coordinates, arranges, and conducts regular meetings, consultations, and visits with regional government offices to understand their priorities, initiatives, and potential areas of collaboration.

  • Acts as the primary point of contact between the bank and regional government offices, ensuring timely communication of bank initiatives, requests, and feedback.

  • Facilitates the bank’s compliance with government regulations and policies by liaising closely with relevant authorities.

  • Supports the bank’s resource mobilisation initiatives by engaging government offices, following up on approvals, and advocating for the bank’s interests.

  • Monitors and tracks government-related issues, approvals, and requests to ensure timely responses and resolutions.

  • Coordinates internal bank teams to address government-related inquiries, ensuring alignment and effective information flow.

  • Ensures proper documentation and reporting of all interactions with government offices, including follow-up on commitments and action items.

  • Escalates critical issues or challenges in government engagement to the Manager or Director – Government Affairs for timely resolution.

  • Represents the bank in official government meetings, forums, and events, conveying the bank’s policies and positions professionally.

  • Supports the preparation of policy advocacy documents, proposals, and government liaison reports as required.

  • Accepts other assignments related to government engagement or bank initiatives as deemed necessary.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, Public Policy / Public Administration, International Relations, and other related fields. With 5 years of experience of engagement and liaison with regional government offices.

LANGUAGE: (indicate fluency level)

  • Fluent in written and spoken English

  • Knowledge of  Amharic, Afan Oromo and Somali  is an additional advantage

Technical / Role-Specific Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of government structures, policies, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Knowledge of banking operations, products, and financing processes.

  • Effective liaison and advocacy skills with government bodies.

  • Report preparation, documentation, and compliance management.

Additional Valuable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes

  • Strong research, negotiation, and advocacy skills

  • Experience with stakeholder engagement and government relations
