Project: LINDA-FAMILIA - Implementation of an Integrated Digital Health System for Infectious Diseases in Maternal and Child Health in East Africa

Duration: 4 years

Reports to: Project Manager, PhD fellows, PIs

Overview:

The LINDA-FAMILIA project aims to enhance maternal and child health services through the implementation of a digital health information management system. The Research Assistants will support the project’s research activities, including data collection, analysis, and capacity-building initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Data Collection:

   • Assist in the design and implementation of data collection tools and methodologies, ensuring adherence to project protocols.

   • Conduct field visits to healthcare facilities to gather quantitative data on maternal and child health services.

   • Engage with healthcare providers and community members to collect feedback and insights related to the project.

2. Data Management:

   • Enter, clean, and manage data collected from various sources, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

   • Conduct preliminary data analysis and assist in preparing data for reporting and evaluation.

3. Literature Review:

   • Conduct literature reviews to support the development of project materials, including training modules and research reports.

   • Summarize findings and provide insights that inform project strategies and methodologies.

4. Support Capacity Building:

   • Assist in organizing and facilitating training workshops for healthcare professionals and stakeholders.

   • Develop training materials and resources to enhance the understanding of digital health systems and data management practices.

5. Reporting:

   • Contribute to the preparation of project reports, presentations, and other documentation as required.

   • Maintain accurate records of project activities and progress, ensuring timely updates are provided to the Project Manager.

6. Collaboration:

   • Work closely with the project team, including the Project Manager and other researchers, to ensure effective communication and coordination of activities.

   • Participate in project meetings, providing input and sharing updates on research activities.

7. Ethical Compliance:

   • Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and standards for research involving human subjects.

   • Assist in obtaining informed consent from participants as necessary.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

• Education:

  • Master’s degree in MD, Midwife, Nursing, Public Health, and Epidemiology. 

• Experience:

  • Previous experience 8 years  in research, particularly in health-related projects, is preferred.

  • Familiarity with data collection methods, data entry, and analysis software (e.g., R, STATA, or Excel).

• Skills:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in Amharic or other local languages is a plus.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data analysis tools.

Preferred Attributes:

• Knowledge of maternal and child health issues in Ethiopia.

• Experience working in community health or with local health authorities is advantageous.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
