Job Description
Terms of employment: Permanent (Transfer)
Place: Ethiopian Public Health Institute, Addis Ababa
Reporting to: Director, National Data Management and Analytics Center (NDMC)
Background
The National Data Management Center for health (NDMC) at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) is a responsible center to centrally archive health and health related data, process and manage health data; apply robust data analytic, metrics and modeling and machine learning/AI methods, synthesis evidence and ensure evidence utilization for decision making by Ministry of Health and relevant stakeholders at national, sub-national levels. NDMC has several collaborative partnerships. The NDMC is looking for high caliber staff for this health informatics position.
Data Management and Repository Support
Support the development and implementation of Data Management Plans (DMPs) and standard operating procedures.
Ensure secure, confidential, and timely handling of health research and surveillance data.
Assist in the development of data entry platforms, dictionaries, and metadata documentation.
Maintain and update data inventories of national and subnational sources from universities, research institutes, agencies, and surveys.
Participate in data mapping, digitization, and centralization of health datasets.
Data Quality and Governance
Apply quality control tools to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of data.
Support data validation, error detection, and corrective workflows for health datasets.
Document, archive, and version datasets following NDMC’s data governance framework.
Data Analysis and Visualization
Use statistical and data analysis software (Stata, R, SPSS, Epi Info, CSPro) to clean, process, and analyze health data.
Prepare and organize datasets for analysis in line with project requirements.
Develop basic data tracking and monitoring mechanisms.
Create tables, charts, and visualization outputs to support evidence-based decision-making and reporting.
Capacity building and team support
Provide technical support and training to data clerks and junior staff on data entry, cleaning, and quality assurance.
Work with senior analysts to prepare datasets for advanced analysis.
Contribute to project documentation and reporting for internal and external audiences.
Support NDMC activities by participating in meetings, workshops, and technical sessions.
Qualification Requirements
Education:
BSc in Health Informatics
Experience:
Minimum of 3–5 years work in Health Informatics
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in at least one statistical package (Stata, R, SPSS, or similar).
Basic knowledge of database management systems (SQL, Access, or similar).
Familiarity with data quality assurance tools and standards.
Experience in data visualization tools (Excel, R, or Power BI/Tableau an advantage).
Other Skills:
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Good teamwork, communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
