Place: Ethiopian Public Health Institute, Addis Ababa 

Reporting to: National Data Management and Analytics Center 

Background

The National Data Management and Analytics Center (NDMC) at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) is a responsible center to centrally archive health and health related data, process and manage health data; apply robust data analytic, metrics and modeling and machine learning/AI methods, synthesis evidence and ensure evidence utilization for decision making by Ministry of Health and relevant stakeholders at national, sub-national levels. NDMC has several collaborative partnerships. The NDMC is looking for high caliber staff for this health informatics position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support data mapping, collection, review, and archiving of health and health-related datasets from national and subnational sources.

  • Conduct systematic reviews, evidence syntheses, policy dialogues, and dissemination forums.

  • Conduct data cleaning, statistical analysis using software such as Stata, R, or SPSS.

  • Contribute to the production of national and subnational health data analysis and estimating on mortality, morbidity, population, and risk factor data for communicable and non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, nutrition, and injuries.

  • Prepare technical reports, datasets, manuscripts, and summary outputsfor internal and external audiences.

  • Translate complex epidemiological and statistical results into policy-relevant products such as briefs, fact sheets, infographics, and presentations for decision-makers.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-to-policy roadmaps and tracking mechanisms, ensuring health data outputs are aligned with the needs of country.

  • Provide technical support and training to junior staff, fellows, and students on epidemiology, data management, and evidence use.

  • Support the organization of workshops, trainings, and stakeholder consultations at national and subnational levels.

  • Work with NDMC colleagues and partners on proposal development, grant writing, and resource mobilization.

  • Prepare materials for NDMC and EPHI leadership, including briefings, background papers, and technical summaries.

  • Represent NDMC in technical meetings, workshops, and national forums as delegated.

  • Contribute to capacity strengthening and knowledge exchange across NDMC divisions.

  • Support other NDMC and EPHI activities as assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualification Requirements

  • Education:

    • Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, General Public Health or related fields (required).

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant work experience in epidemiology, burden of disease analysis, health data systems, or evidence-to-policy translation preferred

    • Experience working with national health data systems (e.g., surveys, HMIS, HDSS, research databases) preferred.

Desired Skills and Competencies

  • Strong foundation in epidemiology, public health research, and quantitative analysis.

  • Proficiency in statistical software (Stata, R, SPSS)

  • Ability to synthesize and translate evidence into actionable insights for policymakers and practitioners.

  • Strong writing skills for producing policy briefs, reports, and manuscripts.

  • Familiarity with Ethiopia’s health priorities, strategies, and policy environment.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and international partners.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
