Job Description:
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) strives to address nutrition and health-related problems by conducting population-based research and contributing to the effective implementation of the Food and Nutrition Policy and Strategy in Ethiopia. To this end, the Nutrition, Environmental Health and Non-communicable Disease Research Directorate of EPHI in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and World Bank, is planning to conduct research on Minimum acceptable dietary intake among children aged 6–23 months in selected Woredas of Ethiopia.
The Minimum Acceptable Diet (MAD) is one of the eight main indicators that the World Health Organization (WHO) has developed to evaluate infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices for children aged 6 to 23 months. It was the original indicator included in the Global Nutrition Monitoring Framework, which was defined as indicators for assessing infant and young child feeding practices; proportion of children 6–23 months of age who receive foods from 5 or more food groups.
Proper feeding practice in children aged 6–23 months significantly reduces the morbidity and mortality caused by malnutrition. The age of 6–23 months is a critical window for improving child nutrition because deficits acquired by this age are difficult to reverse.
In order to strengthen the program, inclusive estimates of the extent of minimum acceptable diet are needed for the programmatic intervention of malnutrition within the context of ensuring a minimum acceptable diet. Therefore, this study aims to estimate the current prevalence of minimum acceptable diet among all specific purpose grant (SPG) pilot woredas in Ethiopia through collecting relevant data in the areas.
