Pastoralist Concern (PC) received a grant from LPI/EU for a project entitled “Mobility and Movement: Cross border resilience in Moyale. The main goal of the project is to enhance effectiveness of conflict prevention and mitigation, disaster risk reduction and management, and resilience building in cross-border communities in select border areas in the Horn of Africa. The project is aimed in enhancing capacities of formal and informal cross-border stakeholders in conflict prevention and management and social cohesion building, with particular focus on women (and youth) and enhancing access to income-generating opportunities and shared natural resources for borderlands community members.

Objective of the position

PC is currently looking and invites qualified candidates to apply for the Marketing Expert.

The marketing expert is responsible for the implementation of the PC Market component of Mobility and Movement: Cross-Border Resilience in Moyale project in protection to the conflict affected communities in Moyale Ethiopia-Moyale Kenya; Hidi Lola-Sololo; Magado-Forolle; and Dilo-Dukana. And she/he works under the guidance of project coordinator. 

She/he is responsible to closely work with the respective Finance and Admin and Program departments in PC Head Office, Woreda and zonal level for organizing; coordinating and facilitating Project financial activities based on the implementation plan.  The Marketing expert represents PC values and principles in interactions with staff and external audiences. These values and principles include commitment to the mission of PC, team orientation, quality management and leadership development, introducing systems and procedures to strengthen staff motivation and productivity.  The marketing expert is responsible for providing technical support to the staffs for the implementation of the aforementioned Projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct market mapping/assessment for the promotion of value chain activities in line with the recommendation of the value chain studies of PC, Concern, government and other partners;

  • Conduct research for key marketing campaigns.

  • Assist in establishment of a viable market information system

  • Develop linkages of PMGs with markets, individuals and other groups for strengthen public private partnership for sale and purchase of value-added agricultural products

  • Build linkages with other value chain development partners / actors in the project area for synergies and complementarities.

  • Assess the potential of the area and make feasibility studies to assist through market linkage and facilitation role.

  • Conduct market research and analyze trends to identify new marketing opportunities

  • Develop and create marketing materials, such as sales and product collateral, and ensure brand guidelines are met

  • Work with external agencies and vendors to execute marketing programs

  • Maintain strong communication between marketing executives and internal and external stakeholders.

  • Facilitate and implement activities related to value chain development and market system development.

  • Facilitate cooperative input and output marketing activities. 

  • Identify and work with private sector actors for sustainable business linkage,

  • Organize and facilitate training and workshops for relevant target groups, community committees and other community members and submit related reports in a timely fashion,

  • Provide training on “market for the poor” approach for implementing partners and other stakeholders.

  • Identify and analyze the potential beneficiaries for their involvement in the value chain development activities of the project.

  • Work for formation and strengthening of the Producer Marketing Groups (PMGs)

  • Prepare guidelines and strategies for market accepted/viable and consumers preferred innovative commodities.

  • Support the women affairs and youth office in provision of business skill training and development.

  • Track the project`s progress and propose changes to the woreda activity plans where appropriate,

  • Contribute to the expertise and approaches of PC in market system development,

  • Perform research, analyses, and testing with a variety of tools to gain insights and shape marketing strategy

  • Assist in execution of marketing plans to reach audiences through targeted channels

  • Develop, implement, and track marketing programs’

  • Collaborate with livelihood officer to develop and monitor strategic marketing initiatives.

  • Ensures the timely, accurate and relevant reports are submitted according to the grant agreements;

  • Submits monthly and quarterly reports for internal monitoring of activities;

  • Arrange/request procurement of supplies needed for marketing activities

  • Ensures all emergency response and humanitarian interventions are undertaken in accordance with the guidelines, policies and procedures of the PC emergency manual, cluster priorities with specific reference to the Code of Conduct and the HAP and Sphere Project minimum standards;

  • Promotes accountability, especially to the disaster affected population, in all emergency responses.

  • Perform other tasks given by immediate supervisor.

Job Requirements

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Marketing, business development, development studies or related discipline with three years’ experience in similar position or BA Degree in related fields with five years’ experience in a similar role.

Skills 

  • Experience in capacity building related to value chain / market development.

  • Experience on coaching and mentoring and Proved facilitation and communication skills.

  • Relevant experience working within a partnership and/or a network including zonal institutions.

  • Experience in facilitating community economic development.

  • Track record in capacity building of local government bodies and community-based institutions and good understanding and knowledge of the youth enterprise development

  • Experience in knowledge management

  • Excellent in social, interpersonal and team building.

  • Very good IT skills (MS office); 

  • Fluency and proficiency in English, Afe Somali and Afan Oromo languages is mandatory Ability to forge and nurture partnerships with the stakeholders, high degree of initiative, integrity, and accountability.
