LonAdd HR Consultancy Plc (www.lonadd.com) is a Recruitment & Outsourcing Company based in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, with branch offices in Dukem, Hawassa and Bahir Dar. We are looking to recruit Head of Agronomy to join On Behalf of Our Client.

Job Purpose:
Build and sustain strong relationships with farmer organizations, cooperatives, and agricultural associations to foster trust and field-level engagement.
Lead, coach, and develop the agronomy team, ensuring high performance, knowledge development, and talent retention.
Provide continuous technical training and mentorship to strengthen internal agronomic capabilities and field excellence.
Skills and competencies
The Head of Agronomy must demonstrate a high level of technical expertise in agronomy, including deep knowledge of soil science, crop nutrition, sustainable agricultural systems, and precision farming tools. They must be able to translate scientific findings into practical, field-ready recommendations tailored to local ecosystems. The role requires strong analytical skills to interpret research trials and performance data and to design agronomic solutions that are both scalable and impactful.
From a leadership perspective, the position demands strategic vision and the ability to structure and drive large-scale agronomic programs across multiple countries. The incumbent must have proven experience in managing multicultural and multidisciplinary teams, guiding them toward high performance and professional development. Project management competencies are also essential, particularly in leading complex, cross-functional initiatives involving internal and external stakeholders.
Interpersonal effectiveness is key to success in this role. The Head of Agronomy must possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage a variety of audiences, including farmers, partners, researchers, and internal teams. Adaptability, agility, and a collaborative spirit are crucial for operating in diverse and evolving agricultural contexts. An innovation mindset and a commitment to ethical, sustainable agricultural development are expected, in alignment with the organization’s mission and values.
Qualifications and Experiences
Academic Background:
Master’s degree or Engineering degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Production, Agricultural Sciences, or a related field.
A PhD is considered a strong asset, particularly for roles involving high-level research partnerships and technical leadership.
Professional Experience :
Minimum of 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in agronomic advisory services, sustainable agriculture, or research and development.
At least 5 years in a senior leadership position managing multidisciplinary agronomy teams across multiple geographies.
Proven experience in the design, implementation, and evaluation of large-scale agronomic programs, preferably in both smallholder and commercial agriculture contexts.
Demonstrated success in building partnerships with research institutions, government entities, and agricultural development organizations.
Strong background in soil fertility management, crop nutrition, precision agriculture, and farmer training systems.
Experience working within or with Pan-Africa institution or international organization is highly valued
Fluent in English and French (spoken and written).
Knowledge of other regional African languages is an advantage.
Other Requirements :
Strong intercultural awareness and ability to operate in diverse agricultural ecosystems.
High level of mobility across the countries.
Excellent leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills.
