Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE) is a pioneering non-profit organization founded over 65 years ago by Drs. Catherine and Reginald Hamlin to eliminate obstetric fistula and restore dignity to women in Ethiopia. From its flagship Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital, HFE has expanded to five regional hospitals, the Hamlin College of Midwives, more than 90 midwifery clinics, and a rehabilitation and reintegration center. With over 70,000 women treated and hundreds of health professionals trained, HFE continues to lead globally in fistula care. Guided by Ethiopian leadership and more than 600 staff, the organization is committed to achieving a fistula-free Ethiopia.

Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE) is seeking a visionary and strategic General Manager (GM) to serve as our principal executive.

Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, the GM will provide transformative leadership, drive HFE's strategic direction, and ensure operational and financial sustainability. This pivotal role involves overseeing our national hospital, five regional centers, the Hamlin College of Midwives, and the Desta Mender rehabilitation village.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leading the development and execution of HFE's strategic plan.

  • Providing strategic advice and transparent reporting to the Board of Trustees.

  • Championing organizational reform, decentralization, and innovation.

  • Leading and supervising the senior management team to foster cross-functional collaboration.

  • Ensuring robust financial planning, budgeting, and diversified resource mobilization.

  • Strengthening relationships with government bodies, international donors, and partners.

  • Serving as the primary representative of HFE to all external stakeholders.

  • Upholding the highest standards of ethical leadership and safeguarding.

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in Public Health, Nonprofit Management, Organizational Leadership, Strategic Management, Health Systems, or a related field. An MBA is highly regarded.

  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience, with at least 8 years in a senior leadership role within a nonprofit or health-focused international NGO.

  • Proven success in leading complex, multi-site organizations through institutional reform and change management.

  • Demonstrated experience in governance, strategic planning, and stakeholder management.

  • Track record of successful donor engagement, grant acquisition, and partnership development.

  • Visionary and inclusive leadership with excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and public speaking skills.

  • Advanced financial literacy and familiarity with donor regulations.

  • Strong knowledge of Ethiopian and international health and nonprofit regulatory frameworks.

  • Fluency in English and Amharic (oral and written) is required.
