As part of our strategic transformation, we are strengthening our in-house technology capacity, developing advanced systems in data analytics, AI/ML, and trade matchmaking to support digital transformation in Ethiopia’s trade sector.

We are seeking a skilled and innovative Data Scientist who will work closely with our IT Department to build TradeEthiopia’s internal data systems, AI-powered tools, and intelligent matchmaking platforms. This role will directly address gaps in system development and enable smarter, data-driven decision-making across our ecosystem.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with IT developers to design and implement data models, databases, and machine learning algorithms tailored to TradeEthiopia’s platforms (B2B, Expo, Training, CRM, etc.).

• Collect, clean, and structure data from multiple internal and external sources (e.g., buyer–supplier databases, CRM systems, expo registrations, training participants).

• Develop AI/ML tools for buyer–supplier matchmaking, lead scoring, trend analysis, and fraud prevention.

• Support building dashboards and analytics tools for Sales, Customer Success, and Management teams.

• Identify and address system weaknesses, data gaps, and workflow inefficiencies in collaboration with IT.

• Work with stakeholders to define data requirements and translate business problems into analytical solutions.

• Conduct exploratory data analysis to guide platform design, user engagement, and operational improvements.

• Support the development of internal APIs and data pipelines for real-time analytics.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Skills

• BSc / MSc in Data Science, Computer Science, AI/ML, or a related field.

• 2+ years of hands-on experience in data analysis, machine learning, or system development (experience with e-commerce, logistics, or trade data is a plus).

• Proficiency in Python, node, SQL, and common data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).

• Experience working with databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and cloud platforms.

• Strong problem-solving and communication skills; able to work cross-functionally with developers and business teams.

• Experience with AI-powered tools, dashboards (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), or recommendation systems is a plus.

• Excellent English communication; Amharic proficiency is preferred.
