We are looking for a committed individual to lead a milk mapping exercise around Addis Ababa and Bishoftu. The purpose of this exercise is to better understand local milk production and collection opportunities, supporting the development of a stronger and more sustainable dairy value chain.

• Proactively identify, build relationships, and conduct meetings with key stakeholders across the dairy value chain, including individual farmers, farmers' cooperatives, milk collection centers, and local authorities.

• Employ various data collection methods (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus group discussions) to gather accurate and reliable primary data on milk production volumes, collection routes, and market practices.

• reports, Systematically collect, combine, and validate data from multiple secondary sources, including existing government statistics, and previous studies.

• Analyze this integrated data to develop a comprehensive and updated overview of milk production, mapping out the volumes and flow for each identified milkshed in the target regions.

• Develop a robust methodology to estimate the potential and actual milk volume available for collection within each defined segment. And create detailed maps and databases that visually and quantitatively represent the milk potential of each segment, serving as a critical decision-making tool.

• Lead the analytical process to evaluate and rank the segmented areas based on key criteria, including total milk availability, cost of collection, quality of infrastructure (e.g., road access, cold chain availability), and competitive landscape.

• Present a prioritized list of segments with clear justifications to guide the company's resource allocation and investment strategy.

• Recruit, train, and directly coordinate a team of field-based milk mappers.

• Develop clear work plans and protocols for the field team to conduct ground-truthing visits to farms and cooperatives in the prioritized segments.

• Oversee the field verification process to validate collected data, refine volume estimates, and gather qualitative insights on the local market dynamics, challenges, and opportunities.

Job Requirements

• BA in Agriculture, Animal Science, Veterinary Science, or a related field

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in agriculture, dairy value chain, rural development, or a related field.

• Proven experience in field-based data collection, research, or mapping exercises.

• Strong understanding of the local dairy farming sector in the Addis Ababa and Bishoftu.

An analytical and structured mindset, with the ability to work independently.
