Job Description

The social workers is responsible to support gender and child protection officers by closely working with local faith communities, facilitating the participation, and supporting the process of achieving transformative positive change on ending FGM and Child marriage in the local communities. The social workers will also facilitate for children and women to have access to protection service to reduce their vulnerabilities to risk and create linkage for case management service for survivors of abuse. In the day to day course of action, they will support children to raise their voice, and their awareness through mobilizing children in school and local communities. The social workers will have great role in strengthening
relationship with community-based protection system, faith leaders, local government actors as of women and children, health, justice, education sectors including local CSO in addressing the issue of harmful gender norms, FGM, Child marriage and GBV that affecting children and women in localities. The social worker will keep documentation of implemented activities and timely report as planned.

Major Responsibilities /Job Description:

  • Facilitate local faith communities to be meaningfully engage in consultation and discussion with a safe, respectful and participatory manner

  • Ensured faith communities member at all level mobilized to take collective action on ending FGM and child marriage

  • Timely follow up, facilitate translation to local language and disseminate information and ICBCC message /materials to target communities

  • Message disseminated to #of communities to ensure behavioral change

  • Assist the project officer in assessment, operational planning, implementation and monitoring of project activities

  • Produce periodic report on implementing and monitoring of project activities

  • Facilitate and support workshop, training, community dialogue session, national advocacy event and coordination platform planned by the project to be implemented

  • # of organized workshop, training, dialogue session, advocacy event and coordination platform

  • Closely work with local authorities on the ground and relevant government sectors (women, children and social affairs, health, education, justice and schools including local CSOs etc.) to facilitate the prevention and response to FGM, Child marriage and GBV to achieve the project goal.

  • Collaboration and networking established and maintained with stakeholders

  • Create linkage for care and case management support and facilitate referral linkage to support at risk girls and survivors in collaboration with school, faith leaders, Women and social affairs, justice, health and local authorities including local CSO. Provide individual psychosocial support to women and girls who are at risk and affected by (to enable their safety, dignity and hope)

  • At risk and survivor of girls are cared and supported.

  • # of cases has got referral service (report) #of girls and women who received psychosocial support

Work Location:

  • Afar Region Dubti Woreda; and

  • Somali Harorys Woreda

Job Requirements

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification:

  • of cases has got referral service (report) #of girls and women who received psychosocial support

Required Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in integrated programming related to gender equality, women’s empowerment, and child protection. Experience working with faith-based organizations is a significant advantage.

  • Preferably trained on SBCC, GBV, case management, child protection and the like

  • knowledge of child rights, national child protection laws and policies, and gender equality and GBV frameworks

Additional Skills Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills.

  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge and experience on social norm change communication programming is an asset

  • Awareness of or interest in working with community-based protection mechanism

  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Language(s)

  • Effective in written and verbal communication in English and speak ‘Somali’ local languages is preferable.
