Study Nurses will be the front-line implementers of the trial, directly interacting with mothers and infants. They will be responsible for screening, enrolment, consent, intervention administration, daily safety monitoring, and home-based follow-up visits.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Screening & Enrolment

   • Screen newborns against eligibility criteria.

   • Obtain informed consent from mothers/fathers or legally authorized representative in culturally sensitive and ethical manner.

   • Enroll eligible newborns to study.

2. Intervention Administration

   • Prepare and administer probiotic/placebo sachets (directly observed therapy).

   • Record supplement intake and any difficulties.

   • Replace any vomited supplement per the trial SOP.

3. Clinical Monitoring

   • Conduct daily assessments during supplementation (feeding, sepsis signs, NEC, growth).

   • Document AEs/SAEs and report immediately.

4. Specimen Collection

   • Collect infant and maternal stool samples per protocol.

   • Label, store, and transport specimens under proper biosafety standards.

5. Documentation & Data Entry

   • Complete case report forms (CRFs) accurately and on time.

   • Maintain source documents and logs.

Job Requirements

Required Qualification

• BSc degree in Nursing with active license.

• ≥2 years’ experience in neonatal/pediatric care.

• Clinical research or trial experience preferred.

• Skills in anthropometric measurements and biological sample collection.

• Good interpersonal and counseling skills.

• Ability to conduct field/home visits in community settings.

Salary: Competitive and as per AHRI’s salary scale

Duty Location: Gandhi Memorial Hospital, with frequent travel to study participants' homes in Addis Ababa and the surrounding areas.
