Job Description
Mothers and Children Multisectoral Development Organization (MCMDO) is a national Non-Governmental Organization registered in accordance with the proclamation for Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No 1113/2019 with a certificate No 0022. MCMDO is currently implementing 24 emergency response and development projects in all regions and City Administrations in Ethiopia. .
To meet its objectives MCMDO calls for competent professionals to apply for the following vacant position.
Position title: Emergency WASH officer
Reports to - Field based project coordinator
Project Location: Dasenech woreda of south Omo zone, South Ethiopia region
Employment type: Contract

Under the direct supervision of the field project coordinator, the emergency wash officer will be responsible for the hygiene promotion and sanitation component of WASH project. He/She will be responsible for the implementation hygiene promotion and sanitation component and ensuring program quality, completion of activities within allocated funding and project period, and identifying new needs for program expansion and improvement.
Prepare monthly and quarterly plan, implementation and monitoring of WASH activities
Closely follow up and supervise activities at IDPs/returnees and Host communities level WASH response component
Supervise the Improved Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) projects to ensure the work is carried out in accordance with the agreed design and plan.
Monitor use and repair of the construction material.
Check that the quality and quantity of the material used are in accordance with the specification.
Train site foreman in the water quality quantity and standards
Provide reports on the Improved Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project with respect to the repairing and construction material procured and used and the volume of work done to the project coordinator
Technically responsible for Maintenance and rehabilitation of water supply system,
Ensure the quantity and quality of water delivered met the standards.
Establish collaborative relationships with stake holder at all levels; communities, local partners, WASH clusters and local government.
Actively engage in recruitment of contactor and closely monitor their implementation
Design water scheme and prepare BOQ of water point rehabilitation and maintenance.
Undertake the implementation and the monitoring of water schemes maintenance and rehabilitation in different intervention areas
Preparation of feasibility studies/ reports, borehole pumping tests analysis & reporting, and completion certificate
Preparation of drawings (AutoCAD/ civil 3d), BOQ/Cost Estimates, and Tender documents for all WASH infrastructures projects.
Regular monitoring of ongoing construction activities to ensure that all the activities are executed as per design, specifications, and work schedule.
Extend all possible technical support to other team members and contractors when and where required.
Prepare, submit and document quality and standard project progress reports on weekly, monthly and quarterly bases.
Conduct regular Water quality monitoring at source and HH level through regular
In collaboration with the Hygiene promotion officer and relevant stake holder conduct qualitative assessment to identify contributing factor for hygiene and sanitation malpractice and design intervention strategy
Ensure registration of beneficiaries based on vulnerability criteria and facilitate for independent verification to avoid inclusion and exclusion error
Ensure Accountability to affected people is established and implemented during distribution of WASH- NFIkit.
Preparation of payment sheet and carry out distribution with active participation of the community and Government stake holder
Strengthen WASHCO through training and provision of tool
Work with Environmental Agents and target beneficiaries to identify volunteers/incentive workers for hygiene promotion/education,
Undertake assessments to identify appropriate hygiene NFI needs and ensure distribution based on final verification result
Any additional tasks assigned by his/her supervisor
Competencies
BSc in Hydraulic or water resource engineering or other related fields with Five years and above work experience in related field. NGO experience is mandato.
Good experience on design software like AutoCAD, water cad & related
Good experience on study, design and implementation of water supply schemes
Very good written and spoken English – Essential.
Well acquainted with SPHERE standard
Ability to work as part of a team as well as to work autonomously when required
