Job Description

The Senior Electrician and Diagnostic Technician is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex electrical and electronic issues in vehicles. This role requires expertise in advanced diagnostics, a deep understanding of modern automotive systems, and the ability to mentor junior technicians. The Senior Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality service and resolving challenging technical problems efficiently.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Advanced Diagnostics and Repairs:

  • Diagnose and repair complex electrical and electronic issues, including faults in control modules, wiring, sensors, actuators, and infotainment systems.

  • Use advanced diagnostic tools, software, and equipment to identify root causes of malfunctions.

  • Troubleshoot hybrid and electric vehicle systems, including high-voltage components, when applicable.

2. Vehicle Maintenance and System Checks:

  • Perform electrical system inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance.

  • Conduct battery testing and maintenance, alternator checks, and starter repairs.

  • Ensure all work complies with manufacturer specifications and warranty guidelines.

3. Technical Support and Problem-Solving:

  • Serve as a point of expertise for resolving challenging or unique electrical and diagnostic problems.

  • Collaborate with other technicians and workshop staff to provide solutions for complex issues.

  • Analyze and interpret diagnostic results to recommend effective repair strategies.

4. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Accurately document diagnostic findings, repair procedures, and parts used.

  • Prepare detailed service reports and share insights on recurring issues with the workshop foreman or supervisor.

  • Ensure all completed documentation aligns with workshop standards and customer requirements.

5. Mentorship and Training:

  • Provide guidance and technical support to junior technicians and apprentices.

  • Share knowledge on advanced diagnostic techniques and new technologies with team members.

  • Assist in training sessions or workshops to enhance the skill levels of the team.

6. Tool and Equipment Management:

  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and calibration of diagnostic tools and testing equipment.

  • Report any malfunctioning tools or equipment to the workshop management for prompt action.

  • Stay updated on the latest diagnostic technologies and recommend upgrades or new acquisitions.

7. Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all workshop safety protocols and procedures, especially when working with high-voltage or sensitive electrical systems.

  • Handle hazardous materials and electronic components safely and dispose of them according to environmental regulations.

  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards and promote a culture of safety among team members.

8. Customer Interaction (as needed):

  • Assist service advisors in explaining diagnostic findings and repair recommendations to customers.

  • Provide insights into repair timelines and estimated costs for electrical and electronic work.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Automotive Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 7 to 12 years of experience in automotive electrical diagnostics and repair.

  • Certification in automotive diagnostics or electrical systems 

  • Experience with hybrid and electric vehicle systems (preferred).

  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, software, and electronic testing equipment.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Accuracy and efficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical and electronic issues.

  • Reduction in repeat repairs and customer callbacks.

  • Contribution to team development through mentorship and knowledge sharing.

  • Customer satisfaction scores for electrical and diagnostic services.
