A Senior Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles while mentoring junior technicians and ensuring high-quality workmanship. This role involves advanced technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle complex repair tasks. The Senior Mechanic contributes significantly to customer satisfaction by ensuring vehicles are safe, reliable, and meet performance standards.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Diagnosis and Repair:
Perform advanced diagnostics to identify and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in vehicles.
Conduct repairs and maintenance tasks, including engine overhauls, transmission work, suspension adjustments, and brake system repairs.
Use diagnostic tools and equipment to ensure accurate identification of vehicle problems.
2. Preventative Maintenance:
Carry out scheduled maintenance services, including oil changes, filter replacements, and tire rotations.
Inspect and test vehicle components to identify wear or potential issues and recommend preventive measures.
3. Quality Assurance:
Ensure all repairs and maintenance work meets manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
Test drive vehicles post-repair to confirm issues are resolved and the vehicle performs optimally.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace to prevent errors and enhance efficiency.
4. Mentorship and Training:
Provide technical guidance and training to junior mechanics and apprentices.
Share expertise to enhance the skill level of the team and ensure consistent service quality.
Assist the workshop foreman in evaluating the performance and development needs of team members.
5. Customer Interaction:
Collaborate with service advisors to explain technical issues and repair processes to customers when required.
Provide input on repair estimates, timelines, and recommendations for additional work.
6. Tool and Equipment Management:
Ensure proper use, maintenance, and calibration of diagnostic tools and equipment.
Report any defective or missing tools to the workshop foreman or management.
7. Compliance and Safety:
Adhere to all workshop safety protocols and industry regulations.
Handle hazardous materials and waste in compliance with environmental guidelines.
Ensure repairs align with warranty and manufacturer standards.
8. Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated on new automotive technologies, tools, and repair methods.
Attend training sessions, workshops, or courses to enhance technical skills and certifications.
Recommend improvements in workshop processes and practices to boost efficiency and quality.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
Diploma or degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 to 12 years of experience as an automotive mechanic, with a focus on advanced diagnostics and repairs preferably in automotive dealer company.
Certification in automotive diagnostics and repair
Proficiency in using modern diagnostic tools and software.
Valid driver’s license.
