Job Description

The role of Product Development Technician will entail full handling of the HQ Product Development laboratory. The PD lab will serve as the hub for all product development conducted for all new products at Komari Beverage.  The candidate will be responsible for the lab, under the supervision of the Product Development Officer.  The tasks in the lab will include working on developing flavors for the local and export markets. The role is also focused on doing product specification tests to ensure the quality and stability of products. The Product Development Technician will also be briefed on the lab's functions within the factory and will serve as a backup in the Chemist's absence. The role holder will also assist in internal panels and in-market consumer tastings.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop new sample products according to provided recipes and make necessary iterations to said recipes as needed.

  • Aligning with the factory site on new product development.

  • Maintaining HQ lab cleanliness, procedures, and equipment handling.

  • Tracking and preserving all lab items, raw materials, and finished products.

  • Requesting the purchase of items needed for the lab.

  • Tracking and reporting on shelf life and stability tests.

  • Cover for the Chemist in the factory in their absence by maintaining basic functions at the lab and performing routine tests as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Process Engineering, Food Science & Technology, Food Science & Nutrition, Chemical Engineering, or Applied Chemistry

  • 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory

  • Good personal hygiene

  • Good communication skills and great attention to detail

  • Meticulous record-keeping capability

  • Ability to assist in the supervision of laboratory functions.

  • Basic Microsoft Office and email skills.

  • Fluency in Amharic and an excellent command of written & spoken English
