The Heavy Equipment & Machinery Sales Department Manager provides strategic leadership to drive revenue growth, market expansion, and operational excellence across the company’s heavy equipment and machinery business. The role is responsible for formulating and executing sales strategies, fostering collaboration among Sales, Spare Parts, and Service divisions, and ensuring alignment with RESCO’s HE Machinery business objectives. 
The position holder will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing sales strategies, strengthening customer relationships, and positioning RESCO as the preferred partner for heavy machinery solutions in Ethiopia’s construction, mining, and infrastructure sectors. This leadership role demands a proactive, commercially astute professional with a deep understanding of OEM sales operations, dealer management frameworks, and after-sales business integration.

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

1. Strategic Leadership & Business Development 

• Formulate and execute long-term sales strategies and annual business plans to achieve revenue, profitability, and market share goals. 

• Identify market opportunities, industry trends, and competitive dynamics to strengthen RESCO’s market position. \

• Drive strategic initiatives aligned with corporate objectives to ensure sustained business growth and customer satisfaction. \

• Prepare and manage the departmental budget, ensuring effective resource allocation and cost control. 

2. Sales Management & Market Expansion 

• Lead the sales operations for heavy equipment, machinery, and related services to consistently achieve performance targets. 

• Establish and maintain strong relationships with key clients, government agencies, and industry stakeholders to expand market reach and brand visibility. 

• Oversee the preparation and submission of tenders, bids, and proposals, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timely delivery. 

• Recommend suitable machinery, spare parts, and services tailored to customer needs and industry applications. 

• Conduct ongoing market and competitor analysis to refine sales strategies, pricing models, and product positioning.

3. Operational Excellence & Cross-Functional Coordination 

• Promote seamless collaboration among Sales, Spare Parts, and Service Divisions to enhance efficiency and customer experience. 

• Develop and enforce standardized operational procedures, manuals, and service quality benchmarks. 

• Monitor supply-demand dynamics, market challenges, and operational constraints, implementing proactive solutions. 

• Ensure prompt and compliant resolution of warranty, goodwill, and service-related issues.

4. Team Leadership & Performance Management 

• Lead, coach, and mentor departmental managers and teams to build a results-driven, high-performance culture. 

• Establish clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) aligned with company objectives and monitor achievement levels. \

• Encourage teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the department. 

• Address employee concerns, evaluate performance, and implement development or corrective actions as needed. 

5. Customer & Stakeholder Relations 

• Maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers through responsive service and effective problem resolution. 

• Represent the company at industry events, trade fairs, and professional forums to enhance corporate reputation. 

• Serve as the department’s spokesperson, ensuring consistent communication and alignment with corporate vision and values. 

6. Compliance, Safety & Continuous Improvement 

• Monitor and evaluate departmental performance, recommending process and operational improvements to enhance productivity and service quality. 

• Ensure compliance with all company policies, ethical standards, legal requirements, and occupational safety regulations. 

• Stay informed on technological advancements, market innovations, and regulatory updates impacting the heavy equipment and machinery industry. 

• Promote a culture of safety awareness and adherence to all applicable workplace safety policies. 

7. Reporting & General Responsibilities 

• Conduct regular departmental meetings to review performance, identify challenges, and coordinate strategic initiatives. 

• Prepare and present periodic sales, performance, and financial reports to executive management. 

• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the company’s overall strategic objectives. 

8. Financial & Administrative Management 

• Prepare and manage the departmental budget, ensuring effective use of resources. 

• Ensure all divisions (Sales, Spare Parts, and Service) maintain updated operational manuals and follow established policies. 

• Analyze performance data, identify challenges, and implement corrective actions to sustain business growth. 

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) 

• Revenue Growth (vs. annual target) 

• Market Share Expansion in target sectors 

• Profit Before Tax (PBT) contribution 

• Customer Retention and Satisfaction (CSI scores) 

• Employee Performance and Retention Rate 

• Sales-to-Delivery Conversion Ratio 

• Operational Safety Compliance & Incident Frequency Rate 

• Work-in-Process (WIP) and Warranty Resolution Efficiency 

Job Requirements

• Education: BSc/BA in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; MBA/ MSc/MA BSc/BA in Mechanical Engineering or a related field preferred.

• Experience: Minimum 15–20 years in the heavy equipment and machinery sales, with proven experience in HE Machinery Sales.

• Strong exposure to mining, construction, or industrial equipment sales in Ethiopia or comparable regional markets.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies 

• Strong record of business development and sales leadership in the machinery sector. 
• Deep understanding of the Ethiopian heavy equipment and machinery market. 
• Demonstrated skills in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning. 
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities. 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant business software. 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. 
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently. 
• Proven conflict resolution and employee coaching skills. 

Working Conditions 

• Based in Addis Ababa with frequent travel to client sites and project locations. 
• May require extended working hours during peak business periods. 
• Must be physically able to perform site visits and meet safety requirements.
