Position: Assistant Research for air pollution and health impact study project 

Duty Station: Addis Abeba 

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) is a biomedical research institute oriented towards prevention, control and treatment of diseases of public healthy importance through basic and applied biomedical research and training. 

AHRI would like to hire one qualified candidate for the position of Research Assistant for air pollution and pregnancy outcome study project being implemented under the non-communicable disease research division. The research nurse will be accountable to the research Project Head (PI) and Project Leader/coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Attend the training session organized by the project.

• Assist in preparing training programs and materials for study site staff as deemed necessary

• Supervise and monitor data collection process and accurate completion of research documentation.

• Ensure the quality of data collected per study protocols and required standards.

• Participating in community sensitization, community engagement meeting and follow-up of study participants as necessary.

• Carry out day to day operation including data collection, supervision and field report preparation as necessary.

• Ensure all the research activities is conducted in accordance with the agreed protocol, 

• Assist in coordination of field activities and project related administration work.

• Assist in obtaining relevant clinical data from patient cohorts.

• Securing the necessary recourse and facility for conducting a research.

• Liaise the project with the local health administration and other stakeholders.

• Anticipating the research project’s material needs and requesting supplies on time.

• Preparing and submitting periodic reports on study site performance.

• Other related responsibilities as requested by the project leader and/or director as necessary 

Job Requirements

Required Qualification & Experiences:

Educational Qualification:  -  BSc Nurse and having MPH /public health is advantageous 

Experience: -  3 and above years’ experience being research nurse.

Other Competencies

• Clinical experience in patient care 

• Experience in Public health research implementation and experience in environmental related research is an advantageous 

• Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skill 

• Knowledge and experience to the traditions and customs of the people in the project area is an advantage 

• Personal motivation to work during off-hours including weekends when necessary.

Terms of Employment: one year with possibility of extension.

Salary: As per the institute contract employee salary scale.
