We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Senior Import Officer to handle and execute our day-to-day import operations. The successful candidate will manage supplier relationships, oversee customs clearance, and ensure full regulatory compliance while optimizing cost and delivery timelines.

The Senior Import Officer plays a critical role in handling the company’s international procurement and import activities. The ideal candidate ensures that goods are sourced, shipped, and cleared efficiently, cost-effectively, and in full compliance with national and international regulations. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Prepare and submit import permits, customs declarations, and bank documents (L/C, TT, CAD)

• Coordinate with international suppliers to secure accurate documentation (invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin/conformity)

• Ensure full compliance with Ethiopian customs laws, banking procedures, and international trade agreements

• Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and regulatory bodies to facilitate smooth clearance

• Monitor shipment progress and proactively resolve delays or discrepancies

• Work closely with internal teams to ensure timely delivery and inventory accuracy

• Maintain organized records of import licenses, customs documents, and payment schedules

• Generate periodic reports on supplier performance, import timelines, and cost efficiency

• Analyze import costs and recommend cost-saving measures

Job Requirements

About You

• BA in International Trade & Finance, Marketing Management, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field

• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in import operations, preferably in a multi-sector import company

• Strong understanding of Ethiopian customs procedures and banking protocols

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems

• Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving abilities

• Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure
