Job Description

Job Purpose:The nutrition coordinator is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of nutrition activities in WVE operation woredas. He/She work in close collaboration with Bale JEOP nutrition officers and manager,  coordinators, teams, government, and NGOs, to ensure coordination, collaboration, integration, and quality of project activities.
Liaise and establish contacts at the regional, zonal, and woreda level with government food security and health offices, DRMC, NGOs, and UN agencies (WFP, FAO, and UNICEF). He/she  actively engages in IYCF-E services for caretakers and pregnant and lactating women.

Key Responsibilities

Program/Project Planning and Implementation

  • Coordinate and facilitate program/project activities, ensuring they align with the overall program/project objectives and donor requirements. 

  • Monitor program/project progress, identify challenges, and develop solutions to ensure timely and effective implementation. 

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date program/project documentation, including reports, meeting minutes, and other relevant materials

Staff Management and Capacity Building

  • Determine the HR needs for the implementation of the JEOP nutrition activities

  • Taking part in the recruitment of staff in line with P &C procedures and in consultation with P&C coordinators/Managers

  • Organising and leading meetings with the team and individual staff members, on both a regular and ad hoc basis

  • Develop and follow up on individual work/ action plans

  • Identifying the training needs of WVE teams on the basis of skills assessments and observation in collaboration

  • Organising and carrying out training sessions, On Job training, coaching, mentoring, and joint supportive supervision.

  • Organise and lead (in collaboration with TA) monthly team meetings to identify challenges and track progress in the programme implementation at the different centres and develop action plan and follow up accordingly

Establish and supervise JEOP Nutrition activities

  • Develop Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP), Project Procurement Plan, Supply Plan

  • Contributing to the design, overseeing the implementation, capacity development, and quality of nutrition programs.

  • Requesting the nutritional supplies allocation, such as supplementary food (RUSF and CSB++), therapeutic food (RUTF), and therapeutic milk (F-75 and F-100), from donors on a monthly basis and following up on the dispatch and the distribution of the supplies to the project participants according to the distribution schedule.

  • ensuring that health facilities are equipped with minimum nutrition supplies and recording and reporting tools needed for CMAM activities (such as therapeutic food, MUAC, registration book, follow-up card, reporting format, referral slip, quick reference, and guideline).

  • Oversee project activities through regular field visits, providing on-site support and conducting joint supportive supervision.

  • Ensuring quality implementation of health and nutritional packages, including CMAM/IMAM, IMNCI, ANC-PNC, IPLS

  • Ensuring quality implementation of CMAM such as inpatient services (SC), OTP, SFP and community mobilization. 

  • Ensuring the implementation of infant and young child feeding (IYCF/IYCF-E) program in the health system- enhancing the availability and integration of IYCF counselling services with all possible focal contact points. 

Develop and direct operations

  • Contribute to the development of the WVE Health & Nutrition strategy, and roll out strategy as required

  • Analysis and follow up of the health and nutrition situation in the region- outbreaks, health and nutrition status and other issues affecting the health and nutrition status of the population.

  • Contributing to the preparation of new project proposals (text, budget, BoQ and HR needs) in collaboration with other sectors’ PMs, Coordinators and Nutrition & health Technical Advisor/specialists

  • Ensure accurate and quality monthly reporting (MMR narrative and quantitative reports)

  • Ensure that staff are adhering to the reporting and recording system (beneficiary cards, follow up cards, register books, daily, weekly, monthly reports)- accuracy and timely submission

  • Contribute to donor reporting (frequency according to the donor requirements) by compiling and writing of nutrition narrative on progress while ensuring accurate data

  • Presenting the Health and Nutrition programme to partners (the authorities, donors etc)

Internal and External Coordination

  • Participate in the different external coordination mechanisms at National, Regional, Zonal and woreda level.

  • Develop network of contacts at base level (INGOs, LNGOs, government, technical or scientific) to allow a smooth implementation of the project

  • Provide updates on WVE health and nutrition activities in the different external coordination meetings.

  • Provide technical inputs according to WVE guidelines, positioning papers, and strategy in the external coordination mechanisms as well as technical working groups

  • Liaison with international and local partners regarding health and nutrition activities

  • Lead and provide support to health and nutrition team on external partners’ (including donor visits) field visits - represent WVE, development of briefing papers etc.

Other Responsibilities

  • Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines. 

  • Contribute to the development of new program/project proposals and fundraising efforts. 

  • Represent the organization at relevant meetings and events. 

  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor. 

Job Requirements

Required Education, training, license, registration, and/or Certification

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health or Nutrition with a clinical health background (e.g., Public Health or Clinical Nursing) from an accredited university or recognized health college.

Certificates on:

  • ToT training in Acute Malnutrition 2019 revised guideline 

  • Integrated Pharmaceuticals Logistics System (IPLS)

  • Certificate of training on SPHERE standards 

  • Trained on Family MUAC approach 

  • Health and Nutrition Assessments/Survey ToT/basic training

  • Training on IMNCI/ICCM/FP/EPI and PHEM 

Required Professional Experience

  • Minimum 4–6 years of progressive experience in health and nutrition programming, including implementation of CMAM/IMAM, IYCF, IMNCI, and emergency nutrition responses.

  • Demonstrated experience in project planning, reporting, and supervision within NGO or humanitarian settings is preferred.

Required Language(s)

  • English – required (proficient in both written and spoken) and knowledge of local language is advantageous
