Position: Senior Accountant  

Location: Addis Ababa 

Reports to: Finance Manager 

Employment Type: Full-time 

Job Purpose 

The Senior Accountant – Project Accounting is responsible for managing and controlling all financial aspects of company projects. This includes project budgeting, monitoring actual performance, controlling project-related costs, preparing periodic reports, and ensuring compliance with company financial policies and accounting standards. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Prepare and monitor project budgets in collaboration with the finance and technical departments. 

• Record and reconcile all project-related transactions, including purchases, payments, fixed assets, and work progress costs. 

• Ensure accurate allocation of costs to each project and report on cost performance versus budget. 

• Follow up on payment certificates, contract variations, and retention payments with project managers and the finance team. 

• Prepare monthly project financial reports, including budget utilization and variance analysis. 

• Control project advances, ensure proper documentation, and follow up on timely settlement. 

• Maintain and update project asset registers, ensuring proper capitalization when projects are completed. 

• Support project audits and ensure documentation is organized for review. 

• Coordinate with procurement, store, and technical departments for proper expense authorization and recording. 

• Strengthen internal controls on project financial activities and compliance with IFRS and company policies. 

• Provide advice to management on project cost control and financial efficiency. 

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

• BA degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field  

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, including at least 3 years handling project-related financial activities. 

• Experience in a Import and Export and construction is advantageous. 

• Strong understanding of project cost control, budgeting, and capital expenditure accounting. 

Personal Competencies

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 

• Good coordination and communication with project teams. 

• Team leadership and ability to guide junior accountants. 

• Result-oriented, with a focus on financial accuracy and compliance.
