Eye Health – preventing blindness and promoting eye health for all.
Inclusive Education – ensuring children with disabilities receive quality, inclusive education.
Inclusive Economic Empowerment – ensuring that barriers are removed for men and women with disabilities to access decent work.
We focus on the poorest and hardest to reach because that’s where we will have the biggest impact.
In Ethiopia, our country strategy for the year 2030 focuses on Eye Health, Inclusive Economic Empowerment, Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), Inclusive Education and Humanitarian Action. Advocacy and disability inclusion are cross cutting theme. Currently, Light for the World Ethiopia is supporting projects in Addis Ababa City Administration, Amhara, Tigray, Oromia, Sidama, Benishangul and SNNP regions. We are in the process of expanding our team in Ethiopia and looking for a committed person to fill the role below and be part of this growth.
Role Position: Finance Officer
Reports To: Grant &Controlling Specialist
Duty Station: Addis Ababa
Terms on Employment: Definite term, one-year contract with possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funding
The Finances Officer will support the Programmes Department in all aspects Grant Acquisition and Management (GAM), including but not limited to identifying fundraising opportunities, supporting the proposal development process and ensuring the effective and efficient management of Finances administration. The role holder is responsible for finance compliance and sub-grant management working with program and finance staffs and partner organizations to assist them in planning, Financing, budgeting and financial management
Duties & Responsibilities:
Ensure Finance files are maintained and ensure that Finance master files are always up-to-date and ready for audit
Coordinate closely with program staff to ensure timely administration and monitoring of Finance agreements
Keep track of Finance applications; monitoring of funding opportunities; and, preparing of requirements for new applications
Co-ordinate the project's sub-Finances accounting, reporting, compliance and sub-Finance management.
Assist the Finance /Grant specialist in reviewing sub-grants, budget and, prepare contracts/agreements and follow up on compliance
Manage correspondences and matters in regard to sub-grants management in consultation with the Finance Specialist.
Handles the day-to-day business management Finance management (non-programmatic) aspects of Finances.
Maintains necessary records, files, reports, databases, and resource materials pertinent to Finances Office activities
Communicates regularly with internal finance department, donors and partners
Documents financial management and budget procedures, regular review and update Finance Management standard operating procedures and relevant documents governing awards as needed.
Works as a team with other staff in performing Finances office activities and assists the colleagues with obtaining and maintaining external funding.
Keeps the relevant staff informed about upcoming deadline and deliverable, thereby ensuring smooth completion of work responsibility throughout the life of award processes
Keeps accurate and complete financial records for each project.
Conducts procurement plan as needed as required to be reviewed and/or approved by donor on funds request.
Provide technical support and supervise the sub recipients to ensure full compliance with the donor requirements
Receive and review periodic Finances reports for all sub recipients and ensure proper allocation of expenses, reasonability of expenses and allowability as per donor guidelines.
Support in preparation and managing donor/internal audits and providing necessary financial archiving procedures to ensure all required expenditure support documents availed when required.
Facilitate training, workshops/seminars for the sub recipients, to foster good understanding of the Finances process, implementation, reporting and accounting.
Provide mentorship to field level staffs and sub recipients and capacity development to them to plan, implement, monitor and report on Finances awarded.
Prepare reports including Finance activity reports, payout reports, and other reports as needed for the both internal and external users
Work to enhance and improve Finances management processes and increase efficiencies
Scan financial transaction document monthly and uploaded to internal storage
Performs other duties as required given his supervisor/line manager
Job Requirements
Skills and qualifications required
Minimum BA degree in Accounting & Finance or related fields. With at least three years of relevant experience working in International NGOs program management or proposal/business development.
Significant knowledge of trusts, foundations and Finance making bodies.
Demonstrable experience of leading or supporting successful Finance applications
Excellent external communication and writing skills
proficient in using software applications and tools such as MS Office, QuickBooks and web conferencing application.
Prior knowledge of government and donor regulations (of different donors)
Good communicator with strong organizational, time management and analytical skills.
Excellent inter-personal, cultural and diplomatic skills.
Strong writing and editing skills with close attention to detail.
Ability to juggle competing priorities, meet demanding deadlines and work under pressure
Willingness to Travel to project areas
