Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE) is a pioneering organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of obstetric fistula and related maternal health issues. Founded on compassion and excellence, HFE strives to restore health and dignity to women across Ethiopia through treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation programs. Including our main Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa, we have 5 regional hospitals, a rehabilitation and reintegration center, and the Hamlin College of Midwives.
This position provides professional nursing services to optimize patient care in medical OPDS and wards. In this role, the nurse works closely with doctors, specialists, and other care providers to deliver day-to-day activities, short- and long-term care to patients. Nurses aid patients from the moment they enter the OPD by collecting patient information, supporting patient evaluation, administering treatments and medications as needed, and educating patients.
The Clinical Nurse is responsible for the day-to-day management of the clinical care delivered to the patients, such as making daily rounds, recording, and reporting progress in the nursing note.
Will also conduct preliminary tests such as monitoring patients’ vital signs, blood pressure, and respiratory checks, and do other assessments as required to detect anomalies
Work closely with patients throughout the intake process to help doctors in the treatment process, such as asking patients questions about current symptoms, medical histories, and medications to provide doctors with a complete understanding of a patient’s current medical needs and background.
A clinic nurse may prepare equipment or other instruments for a doctor or assist with procedures during a patient’s stay.
This aspect of the role requires a clinic nurse to rapidly shift between tasks and duties depending on where doctors need the most assistance
Provide direct care to patients, including administering medication or treatments, changing the dressing on a wound, applying topical treatments, or administering medication via intravenous methods or direct injection.
Follow up with patients to determine whether courses of treatment are effective and assess patients during follow-up appointments.
Contribute to successful long- and short-term treatment through careful observation of patients on initial and follow-up visits.
May take note of changes in a patient’s overall health, recovery progression, and reactions to treatment, updating patient records to reflect new information.
Report any problems or potential issues that they observe directly to the doctors.
Also, ensure that facilities are clean and prevent the spread of disease by sanitizing and maintaining equipment.
Follow proper disposal procedures for potentially hazardous materials, including needles and tubing, and clean equipment that is used by multiple patients within the facility.
Interact with patients throughout the day and often liaise between patients, doctors, and patient representatives like family members.
Need to adhere to privacy laws to maintain patient confidentiality, and often need to provide family members and other care providers with information about patient health and well-being.
Perform patient intake and assessment, which includes measuring patient health and wellness, both through direct observation and by conducting medical tests and evaluations
Experience with providing care to patients is a necessity since clinic nurses treat illnesses and injuries and administer medication under the direction of doctors and other care providers
As a care caregiver, responsible for observing and examining patients closely to come up with an accurate diagnosis of their illness and health condition.
Administer treatment to patients based on findings from their diagnosis and assess the effectiveness of the treatment administered to patients.
To help patients recover faster, the nurse works with their loved ones and family members to identify things that appeal more to patients and make them respond to treatment faster.
As one with an open mind to patient recovery, work with other healthcare providers to come up with the best treatment techniques they need to get better.
He/she makes it a priority to always be current and updated about the latest developments and discoveries available to make immense contributions in the organization he/she works for.

Assessing patients before surgery and alleviating their concerns
Evaluate the patient in the pre- and postoperative phases
Gives oral and written reports of pertinent information to oncoming staff.
Prepares and administers medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.

Be aware of the five rights (right medication, right patient, right route, right dose, and right time).
Demonstrates flexibility in recognizing and participating in 24-hour staffing if needed.
Adheres to the policies and procedures of the Health of HFE.
Performs other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
