JSI has historically managed a large portfolio of projects focusing on the quality and equity in access of RMNCAH services, primary health care (PHC), including community health programs, digital health, health information systems (HIS), supply chain management, public health emergency responses, and social and behavior change.
The Momentum Integrated Health Resilience project is implemented by a consortium led by IMA World Health, is a global initiative that partners with governments and local stakeholders in fragile states and regions. MIHR’s objective is to save lives through increased access to high-quality MNCH-Nutrition life-saving interventions, strengthening partnerships with local organizations, and improving adaptive management to prevent, detect, and respond to health emergencies. MIHR focuses on equipping health institutions and frontline workers with the skills, tools, and resources to sustainably address the leading causes of maternal and child deaths. In Ethiopia, the project has three main objectives: 1) Enhance health facilities' readiness to provide essential quality MCH and nutrition services; 2) Improve access to and utilization of quality MCH and nutrition services through contextualized service delivery models; and 3) Enhance health security by improving emergency preparedness, disease surveillance, and outbreak response.
The Advisor will be the project's primary expert in coordinating and executing all public-facing communications to effectively convey Project results, achievements, and lessons learned to key audiences, including the donor, global public health stakeholders, and Ethiopian government partners. This role requires generating high-quality content, applying deep knowledge of donor requirements, utilizing multi-channel dissemination platforms, and providing expert communications guidance to the project leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities
Fully understand and adhere to the donor’s communication and outreach strategy, ensuring all project communications support their objectives.
Develop, implement, and continuously update the Project ’s comprehensive communications strategy, including digital media planning, media relations, and events strategy.
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, tailoring messages to meet the needs of diverse audiences and driving cross-functional alignment on key programs and initiative Design, plan, and execute high-impact learning events, knowledge-sharing forums, and evidence dissemination workshops. The objective is to strategically communicate JSI's critical lessons, best practices, and project achievements to internal and external stakeholders, maximizing their impact and utilization.
Provide comprehensive technical support and oversight for all knowledge management (KM) initiatives and tasks. This includes the development and maintenance of robust systems to ensure JSI's intellectual property and knowledge products are systematically captured, accurately stored, categorized, and readily accessible for retrieval and strategic utilization across the organization.
Execute assignments, reports, and administrative duties as mandated by the Communications and External Relations Manager.
Content Development & Dissemination
Lead the compilation, writing, and finalization of key program deliverables, including monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports for USG, coordinating the entire process to meet internal and donor deadlines.
Work closely with technical staff to conceptualize, write, and finalize external-facing materials, such as technical briefs, policy briefs, reports, blogs, conference abstracts, and presentations.
Organize, produce, package, and disseminate project information (print, video, and electronic) in a timely manner, utilizing backstopping support to finalize and share content across relevant channels.
Develop a multi-channel dissemination strategy using appropriate digital technology to ensure effective reach to national and international stakeholders.
Provide expert guidance to all project staff on USG marking and branding guidelines, ensuring all public-facing communication and materials are compliant with the approved branding and marking plan.
Maintain an accessible archive/database that stores and tracks all project-produced communication products and publications.
Job Requirements
Master's or Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a closely related field.
Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in a communications, public relations, and/or content documentation role, preferably within an international development, public health, or nonprofit setting.
Experience working on USG funded programs is strongly preferred.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English is mandatory.
Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, write, and edit complex technical content into clear, compelling, and audience-appropriate materials.
Proven ability to develop and implement comprehensive, multi-channel communications strategies, including proficiency with new technologies and social media platforms.
Exceptional organizational and coordination skills in a fast-paced environment with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
Ability to establish and maintain strong professional relationships with project team members, donors, and other cooperating agencies.
Design experience using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, or similar systems is highly desired.
Ability to travel to various regions throughout Ethiopia is required.
