The Momentum Integrated Health Resilience project is implemented by a consortium led by IMA World Health, is a global initiative that partners with governments and local stakeholders in fragile states and regions. MIHR’s objective is to save lives through increased access to high-quality MNCH-Nutrition life-saving interventions, strengthening partnerships with local organizations, and improving adaptive management to prevent, detect, and respond to health emergencies. MIHR focuses on equipping health institutions and frontline workers with the skills, tools, and resources to sustainably address the leading causes of maternal and child deaths. In Ethiopia, the project has three main objectives: 1) Enhance health facilities' readiness to provide essential quality MCH and nutrition services; 2) Improve access to and utilization of quality MCH and nutrition services through contextualized service delivery models; and 3) Enhance health security by improving emergency preparedness, disease surveillance, and outbreak response.
The Maternal Health (MH) Advisor is responsible for overseeing and conducting the overall technical interventions of the project on and related to MH. The advisor is also responsible for providing technical assistance on MH to the area implementation team (AIT) and partners, coordinating overall MH and related activities, and representing the project on different MH-related platforms as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of Maternal Health (MH) interventions across all sites and relevant health system levels, in consultation with the Technical Lead - Service Delivery and project teams.
Develop the annual MH program plan in close collaboration with the Technical Lead, Service Delivery, and other key teams.
Drive achievement of key MH milestones and deliverables. Proactively monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot any challenges related to the Project’s MH implementations.
Serve as the MH technical expert, providing Technical Assistance (TA) to the Area Implementation Team, consortium partners, government entities, and other stakeholders.
Develop essential MH program resources, including manuals, guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, and other required documents.
Prepare and finalize timely quarterly and annual MH reports for the Project.
Establish and manage a robust monitoring system in collaboration with the MEL and Communications teams to track the quality and reach of MH activities, ensuring that lessons learned inform adaptive management.
Identify, conduct, and disseminate operational research on MH, collaborating with the Research, MEL, and Communications teams.
Publish technical briefs, best practices, and lessons learned with the Communications team, actively sharing findings with stakeholders across various forums.
Represent the Project in relevant MH technical meetings, working groups, and conferences.
Coordinate and collaborate with other US Government and non-US Government investments in MH to capture best practices and identify interventions for scale-up and long-term sustainability.
Participate in Project meetings as required, providing updates on MH's innovative and strategic approaches.
Perform other duties as assigned by the organization.
Job Requirements
Required skills and qualifications
Advanced degree in health fields with specialized training and/or experience related to MH
At least 10 years of technical and programmatic experience on MH.
Experience on protocols, manuals and training materials development.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Able to promote team work and effort.
Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Proven experience of working along the health system - community, primary health care units and referral hospitals
Experience of interacting with local governments, international organizations, other bilateral donor and civil society representatives, and senior level government officials is desired.
Computer skills in word, power point and Excel.
Skills in data processing.
Able to work with minimum supervision.
Being able to communicate with more than one local language is a plus.
