Job Description

Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly dedicated Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) Operator for our operations in Shire with frequent travel to the field offices.

In June 2024 DRC has launched a humanitarian mine action programme, initially composed of NTS and explosive ordnance risk education (EORE) in Northwest and Central Zone in Tigray, Ethiopia. DRC is therefore looking for a dedicated NTS Operator to support the launch and implementation of a new project beginning in January 2026.  

The overall role of the EORE Operator is to conduct community-level educational activities in different community settings to inform communities of the impact of explosive ordnance on women, girls, boys and men in the target areas.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Implementation

  • In coordination with the EORE Team Lead, conduct assigned EORE activities, ensuring quality and compliance with National Mine Action Standards and DRC’s Standard Operating Procedures

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver EORE sessions to target communities, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and other vulnerable groups, ensuring compliance with DRC’s SOPs and safety protocols.

  • Identify and engage with community leaders, local authorities, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure active participation and support for EORE activities.

  • Develop and implement tailored EORE interventions based on community needs and context assessments.

  • Foster inclusive access to risk reduction activities and victim assistance (VA) services by closely liaising with VA actors (including DRC) and applying the different referral options for needy individuals.

Reporting 

  • Ensure daily/weekly/monthly EORE reporting is completed using standard reporting templates and submit to the Information Management Officer and Team Lead for verification and conduct corrections as necessary

  • Report issues faced during project implementation to the Project Manager and Team Lead

  • Document success stories and lessons learned for development of donor reports and case studies 

  • Any other duties as directed by the Line Manager

Job Requirements

Experience and technical competencies: 

  • 1 year working experience in realted fields

  • Vocational school, higher education is an asset

  • Previous training, qualification and experience in NTS/EORE

  • Sound knowledge of topography and map drawing, basic handling of compass, GPS and basic digital camera

  • Experience working for Non-governmental Organizations

  • Computer literate

  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal) in Tigrinya and English 

  • Excellent ability to work in a team

  • Good knowledge of local communities and community dynamics 

  • Experience and willingness to work in the field in remote and volatile areas 

 EDUCATION: (include certificates, licenses, etc.)

  • Vocational school - higher education is an asset

  • High school 

  • NTS/EORE qualification  

  LANGUAGE: (indicate Fluency level)

  • Tigrinya 

  • Knowledge of the English language (verbal and written) is an asset.

Contract length: 6 Months

Band: I2 – Non-Management

Designation of Duty Station: Shire, with frequent travels to Field locations.

Start date:  January 5, 2026

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National employees
