Location/duty station: : Location/duty station: Benshangul Gumuz, Asosa Zone, Kurmuk Woreda Project Site - Fly In/Fly out roster (6/2weeks)

Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp, a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, with mining operations in multiple countries including Ethiopia, Mali, and Côte d'Ivoire. KGM holds a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three Exploration Licenses for its Ethiopian project. These licenses are located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and about 90 km northwest of Assosa, in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. KGM is currently engaged in both mine development and exploration activities at the site.
KGM is searching for a Geotechnical Engineer with significant experience in geotechnical engineering to be responsible for ensuring the stability of open pit mines by collecting and analyzing rock and soil data, performing slope stability analyses, and implementing ground control measures to manage risks, who’s duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
Mine design and planning: Provide geotechnical expertise for open pit designs, mine plans, and the evaluation of new designs.
Data collection and analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret geotechnical and geological data, including rock fall events, ground control issues, and laboratory testing results.
Risk management: Identify and manage geotechnical risks, monitor slope stability, and develop and implement mitigation measures.
Ground control: Develop and maintain the site's Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) and ensure compliance with safety standards and legislation.
Instrumentation: Oversee the installation, monitoring, and maintenance of geotechnical instrumentation, such as piezometers and monitoring systems.
Water management: Advise on dewatering and drainage systems, as water is a major factor in open pit stability.
Collaboration: Work closely with operational teams, including mining engineers, geologists, and survey staff, to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Reporting: Compile geotechnical reports and provide timely communication of geotechnical information and risks to management.
Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI): Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Qualifications
A tertiary qualification/diploma in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field and association with internationally recognized society will be an advantage.
Experience:
Experience in geotechnical assessments, slope stability analysis, and open pit mining is crucial.
Proficiency in geotechnical software packages for analysis and modelling (e.g., numerical modelling).
Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and mine planning principles.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Familiarity with ground control management plans and risk assessment processes.
Understanding of rock mass properties, blasting, and geological modelling.
A good understanding of quality control and quality assurance protocols.
Technical Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to adapt and change with a growing company, including integration of new projects and operations.

Other Requirements:
Work consists of a high degree of social interaction with employees in person.
Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
