The purpose of the role: to embed child protection from any actual and potential harm in all aspects of GOAL Ethiopia operation, the child protection officer will leverage their expertise to create a safe environment and safe intervention and workplace culture. The post-holder efforts are integral to fostering an inclusive and protective environment that aligns with our organization’s values, supporting the overall mission to optimize our impact on the communities we serve, particularly children.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Child Protection Officer (CP-Officer) is responsible for ensuring implementation of child protection activities designed to prevent and respond to child protection risks/concerns affecting crisis impacted children in target locations.
He/she will facilitate project activities at a woreda level and make sure that the project is implemented in target woreda/locations in line with the agreement entered with Donors, respective government line offices/signatory bodies.
The post holder is expected to provide guidance, mentoring and coaching community volunteer and CPC to enhance the quality of child protection case management and provision of psychosocial support services.
In addition, he/she will ensure periodic and timely reporting of project activities as per donor and GOAL internal reporting requirements.
Encourage good practice by promoting and championing the child protection policy and procedures.
Regularly report to line manager and protection programme lead.
Raising awareness of the code of conduct for working with children, parents and care givers.
Respond appropriately to disclosures or concerns which relate to the well-being of a child.
Provide technical support and coach sectoral government stakeholders and build their capacity in line with child protection project implementation.
Shares lessons and insights from experiences and evaluation of programme and project effectiveness, feeding these into local, regional and Country networks.
Maintain confidential records of reported cases and action taken.
Provide technical and management support for the implementation, monitoring and reporting of child protection programs and ensuring that the interventions included in the child protection priority focus areas.
Ensure effective and efficient management of financial resources, including reviewing and checking project budgets, monitoring expenditures, and implementing cost control measures.
Identify, capture and develop case studies for the purpose of reporting, advocacy and influencing efforts.
Organize and properly maintain database and information related to the program.
Based on needs assessment, support and facilitate capacity building of front-line workers on violence, referral pathways, case management, community-based child protection systems, community mobilization, integration of multi-sectoral programming, and psychosocial support as per capacity building plans.

Knowledge and experience
Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Law, Community, Development or other related fields of social science studies.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in implementing child protection in emergencies or other similar projects and clear understanding of child protection technical areas, International and national frameworks, such as case management, PSS, CBCPS, CFS and CFRM
Experience of working with child survivors and at-risk children in NGO/INGO working system.
Experience in organizing and facilitating capacity building training on key child protection topics for a range of target groups including government frontline workers and Social Workers.
Experience in community mobilization and conducting outreach activities
Desirable quality, skill and competence:
Fluent spoken and written English, Afan Oromo, Somali and Amharic languages.
Experience in capacity building and mentoring.
Good computer usage skills: e.g. MS Word, Excel, power point etc.
Good interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills and flexibility
Good understanding of Child Protection program approaches and practices
