The Emergency Surgeon (IESO) will provide essential surgical and emergency care, including management of obstetric and trauma cases in Adi Remet Primary Hospital. The role ensures timely, life-saving interventions, mentors’ junior staff, and supports hospital readiness for high-risk emergencies.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide emergency surgical care, including cesarean sections, trauma surgery, and other life-saving procedures.

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with acute surgical, obstetric, and trauma conditions.

  • Stabilize patients prior to referral or further intervention if necessary.

  • Mentor and supervise medical officers, nurses, and other clinical staff in emergency surgical care.

  • Maintain accurate medical records, surgical logs, and patient follow-up documentation.

  • Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols in all surgical procedures.

  • Participate in hospital emergency preparedness and response activities, including mass casualty events.

  • Coordinate with referral hospitals and IMC teams for seamless patient management and transfers.

  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits in surgical care.

Job Requirements

  • Medical Doctor (MD)/PHO with postgraduate training in surgery or IESO certification.

  • Valid professional license.

  •  Minimum 2–3 years of clinical experience in emergency or obstetric surgical care.

  •  Strong clinical and surgical decision-making skills.

  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage high patient volumes.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills.

  • Fluency in English (required); knowledge of local language(s) is an advantage.

  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and professional ethics.

  • Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced outbreak environments.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.

  • Proactive, flexible, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities.
