Job Description
Natanim Charitable Organization (NCO), registered on April 5, 2023, under Ethiopia’s Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No. 1113/2019 (Registry No. 6792), focuses on mental health, psychosocial support, and disability issues across Ethiopia. NCO collaborates with government offices, health and education institutions, other NGOs, and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) to serve vulnerable communities, particularly person with disabilities.

Mission: Serve the most vulnerable communities regardless of their disabilities, religion, race, ethnicity, gender, age or economic status through psychosocial support in working with people with the passion, local partners, stakeholders, and donors.

The Collective Action for Disability Rights (CADR) project, funded by NORAD through Atlas Alliance and directly financed by Youth Mental Health Norway, aligns policies with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). Implemented by NCO, it enhances access to services for people with disabilities in Ethiopia through human rights and advocacy for persons with disabilities, inclusive education, OPDs organizational development, and health and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. The project supports Ethiopia’s 17.6% population with disabilities, 95% of whom live below the poverty line, fostering systemic inclusivity.
Position: Psychologist
Reports To: Psychosocial coordinator
Location: Dire Dawa, Ethiopia
Employment Type: One-year contract with possibility of extension
Salary: An attractive and competitive salary will be offered, based on qualifications and experience, in accordance with the organization’s salary scale.

The psychologist will play an active role in screening, assessing, designing, and implementing interventions using a holistic approach to improve the psychological, social, and emotional well-being of beneficiaries.
Assessment & Treatment Planning: Conduct screening and assessments to develop individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans tailored to beneficiaries' needs.
Psycho-education & Counseling: Provide psycho-education and counseling services to beneficiaries and their families to promote mental health and well-being.
Family & Group Support: Offer family support, facilitate group therapy sessions, and foster a supportive community environment.
Home & School Outreach: Conduct home and school visits as needed to assess environments and provide direct support.
Community Engagement: Organize community awareness campaigns and rehabilitation activities to promote inclusivity and understanding.
Expert Consultation: Serve as a psychosocial issues expert within the organization, offering guidance and best practices.
Inclusivity & Diversity: Ensure all interventions consider diversity and promote equality among beneficiaries.
Reporting & Documentation: Prepare monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual reports to document progress and activities.
Record Keeping: Maintain updated records of beneficiaries, including follow-ups, referrals, and case histories.
Capacity Building: Contribute to training manual development and deliver capacity-building activities for staff and stakeholders.
Safeguarding & Reporting: Report any concerns that may endanger beneficiaries to the Program Manager/Psychosocial support Coordinator to ensure safety and appropriate action.
Travel Requirement
Frequent travel to regional areas may be required.
Must be ready to travel on assignment as needed.
All travel and accommodation expenses will be covered in line with the organization's travel policy.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Social Work
Expereince: Minimum of 2 years expereince in counseling children with disabilities, especially in school settings
Teamwork & Training: Experience working within a multidisciplinary team. Prior training /Experience in case management and/or the bio-psychosocial approach is an advantage
Language Skills: Fluency in both Amharic and English (Spoken and Written), Oromifaa and Somali Language is advantageous
Other Skills: Strong communication and counseling skills, with the ability to work effectively with children and families. Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
Other: Commitment to working with children with disabilities, adherence to organization’s mission, and flexibility to work in various settings.
Additional Information
Duties: Additional tasks may be assigned by the organization based on CADR project and operational needs.
Examination Process:
Screening based on documentation (education, experience, etc.).
Written and interview exams for shortlisted candidates.
Final interview with donor representative (online, with NCO presence).
Background Check: Police/criminal check required.
Collateral: Required upon job offer, with a letter from the guarantor’s organization.
